I purchased this battery because my 5-year-old son's Nintendo 3DS XL was not holding a charge. The issue, on the other hand, was not the same. It was caused by a cable inside the system that would immediately shut down when the screen was extended 180 degrees or the lid was closed. It's a well-known issue (at least according to my extensive googling) with a simple solution of not opening the lid 180 degrees and saving progress before closing it. Before you buy this battery, make sure you don't have this problem. br>br>On to the battery. The battery is exactly as described, but the description could use a little more detail. The battery is a tad thicker than the previous one. The thickness isn't an issue, and it will easily fit into the battery. When the bottom cover is closed, there is no bulge. It's like that every now and then. This is only a minor issue because it does not drop into the battery as well as the original. To get it down into the well, you'll need a plastic pry tool. I was concerned because I didn't want to damage the system by forcing the battery in. It did, however, go in after some coaxing. So far, the battery has performed admirably, with no unexpected fires, overheating, or ozone odor. I'm not sure if the 1800mAh battery helps it last longer, but my son can play his 3DS XL all day. Without the need to recharge, you can go for 8 hours.
For the price, I should've expected more.
The battery died after only a few hours, which could indicate a defect or a problem with the battery as a whole. It didn't last as long as the one I replaced. If you only need a battery for a few hours, this one will suffice; it fits and functions properly. I'd look elsewhere if you're looking for a fully charged battery to replace your old one.
Surprisingly, the swap went smoothly, and yes, this does fit the new 3dsxl. I also think the battery life is slightly better than the original, and it came with a service screw driver for easy and quick installation.
After a while, you'll notice that the battery on your 3DS XL isn't holding a charge as well as it once did. This one has a slightly higher capacity than the original and has served me well thus far. It's been months since I've had it.
The only issue I had was with the included screwdriver, which was too small for me to remove the screws from my 3DS, so I had to use one from my own toolkit.
Also, until I used a paper shim with this battery to keep it in contact with the contacts, my 3DS kept shutting down. It served as a temporary fix for two weeks until Nintendo sent me a new OEM battery, which is far superior.
