Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use a 2ds for this?

No, it is only compatible with the standard 3DS. The xl and 2ds, however, are not available.

Is this battery compatible with the Nintendo 3DS XL as well?

The CTR-II is used in the 3DS and 2DS games. N3DS uses the uncommon KTR-003 battery. SPR-based technology is used in the 003 and XL models. No, it won't fit because it's a 003 number.

Is there a screwdriver included to remove the 3DS's back cover?

It does not include a screw driver, but you can get one for $2 almost anywhere that sells glasses.

Will the Nintendo ac adapter work with this?

This is the only time I use it with the Nintendo AC adapter. It does the job perfectly.

If you have a 3DS, you should have this battery as well
5/5

"TL;DR," "Quick and Dirty," "TL;DR," "TL;DR," "TL Version: DR") br>br>To summarize, the reviews are accurate. Yes, it adds heft and weight, but it isn't overwhelming (though it could be a problem if you have weak wrists or fingers). Yes, it adds heft and weight, but it isn't overwhelming (though it could be a problem if you have weak wrists or fingers). Both the 3DS screws and the new battery screws will require the use of a Phillips 00 screwdriver. I played a 3DS game for several hours straight, plus a few hours in sleep mode, with WiFi and 3D turned on the WHOLE TIME and brightness set to 3 (for comfort) - By the end of the day, I had dropped a bar. The money spent was well spent. Full Review with Backstory: br>br> br>br>On eBay, I purchased a used Nintendo 3DS from a guy. "Adult Owned," according to the description, with a charger and stylus included. In photographs, it appeared to be a good idea. br>br>It was in good overall condition when I received it, but even after fully charging it, it would start flashing red and die within SECONDS, even though the 3D was turned off, after only a few hours of play. It didn't give me enough time to save. br>br>I was perplexed because no one else seemed to be having the same battery problems as me. The majority of what I read said the 3DS battery only lasted about 3 hours, but it seemed like the light was supposed to turn red for a while, then flash, and even then, there should've been at least a few minutes to save and charge it. I did the best I could with Power Save - Brightness has been turned on. 1, turn off 3D, turn off WiFi, and play a standard DS game. I believe I received three. It lasted no more than 4 hours before shutting down with only 1 or 2 flashes (almost instantly). br>br>After dealing with that, I came to the conclusion that the battery was failing and that I needed to replace it if I wanted any portability (I mostly played on the charger). br>br>Based on the reviews, I was immediately drawn to this battery because of its long charge life. Because I don't have a warranty, I wasn't concerned about "voiding my warranty," and the reviews assuaged my fears about the battery overcharging and causing the 3DS to die. I didn't want to spend a similar amount of money on a regular, OEM replacement that would only give me the standard 3DS lifespan (especially since most people in the forums complained about it only lasting a few hours). I didn't want to buy a product that promised "double the battery life" when the reviews said it would last MANY hours, if not days. I figured that in the worst-case scenario, I'd just get more time than I was getting now, and in the best-case scenario, I'd get more time than I was getting now. tons of extra time. br>br>I purchased mine from MPF (on Amazon) because it was less expensive than the one with free Prime shipping and they claimed to include a screwdriver tool. They tried, but it didn't work out. br>br> I say this not to scare you away from buying from them, but because you'll still need a 00 Phillips screwdriver. This is a very specific screwdriver, and it doesn't appear to be included in most cheapo jeweler/eyeglass sets (I bought one and returned it). I got mine from Ace Hardware, but I'd recommend looking for one on Amazon or eBay and ordering it along with the battery. I only found 00 Philips as part of sets that cost more than $10, but I saw singles for $4 on the internet. br>br>Once I got the back off, I figured out why my battery life was so bad and why the flashing was so sudden (there was no regular red light to warn you). The battery was a cheap knockoff, which the eBay seller had completely forgotten to mention! When I was considering purchasing this battery, I was concerned about using a non-rechargeable battery. Product of Nintendo - and one had already been set up in this location. It didn't even fit into the 3DS properly because it was held in place by folded pieces of paper. br>br>On the other hand, the new battery fit perfectly, but it's also a lot more battery because it has so much more capacity. Its own cover and screws (shiny dark gray/black) are included because it covers the entire back. The screws are extremely small - The size of ants, to be precise. You'll need a Phillips 00 once more. br>br>Once it was installed, I turned off the 3DS and plugged it in. I left it to charge for several hours. After about 3 hours, I did what other reviewers suggested and unplugged and replugged it. The color of the light was orange. (In fact, with the new battery, my boyfriend noticed that the charge light seemed to glow brighter. ) ) I plugged it back in and checked it again an hour later (using the same method). After plugging it back in, the orange light went out for a brief moment. br>br>I unplugged it and began to play. The weight difference was immediately noticeable, and the grasp was slightly different as well. I increased the brightness to 3 and increased the 3D to 100%. I kept the WiFi on and turned up the volume to about half-way (I didn't have any headphones). I did keep power saver turned on, but only for the ostensible reduction in blue light. Starting at 5 a. m. , the game will be played. 20:20 – 6:00 p. m. 45pm. With WiFi turned on, put it in sleep mode. Around 8 p. m. , I returned to it. I kept playing until about 11 p. m. with the same settings as before. When I went to bed, the battery was still fully charged. br>br>I went to bed and charged the phone overnight. The orange light had automatically turned off when I awoke, as it had done every night since. I'm guessing the orange light on this battery just takes a little longer to turn off? br>br>I decided to put the battery to even more rigorous testing, and I was still blown away by its new mobility. Around 11 p. m. , I unplugged it from the charger. 30am. I played for several hours throughout the day (with Wi-Fi turned on, volume turned up, and 3D turned on at times but not all of the time). In between, it was set to sleep. I even decided to watch a one-hour movie. Netflix has a 5-hour film on it. I had finally lost one bar by the end of the day. br>br>Overall, this is a fantastic purchase. I've always charged it at night, but I think it could last several days if properly cared for. Especially if you aren't playing for several hours at a time. br>br>The weight and added thickness *are* noticeable, but I don't think it would be too much unless you are playing for hours on end. My wrists would last longer than this battery, but I believe my desire to play would last longer than my wrists. br>br>I was also concerned that it would become hot after a long period of use (as some reviewers had complained about other 3rd party batteries). That wasn't the case. It didn't feel particularly warm, so I don't expect it to harm my 3DS in any way. Please see my photos, which include a photo of the original 3DS, the height (using a 3DS game as a reference) without the battery, the height with the new battery, the size of the screws against the font and next to an actual ant, the screwdriver you'll receive if you buy it from MPF, and the screwdriver you'll actually need. The back of my 3DS is black, so it doesn't matter, but I think the aesthetic difference is worth the extra play time. br>br>If you own a 3DS, you can't go wrong with this, even if you have a real Nintendo battery in there. It could not only handle full-length flights, but it could also go on camping trips and last for several days on a full charge with moderate use. I was about to regret buying the 3DS because I didn't realize the battery was a knockoff, but this has changed my mind!.

It has a long battery life, and I am pleased with it overall
5/5

It has a long battery life, and I am pleased with my purchase overall. However, prospective buyers should be aware of the following: It was extremely difficult to put it together correctly while being gentle because the case that fits over the battery fits it and the 3DS to a T. Because I snapped each area in place before screwing in each screw, I forgot to snap it for the last one, and when I screwed it in, the plastic case around the screw hole snapped instead due to the screw's push/pull and the unsnapped case. Despite this, it has remained securely fastened. br>br>Another point to consider: Keep in mind that if you have wrist problems, this will make your 3DS feel like a brick. Because playing games for long periods of time has caused my wrists to hurt from holding it up for so long, I've taken to resting my hands against something while playing to relieve the strain.

It significantly extends the battery life of the 3DS, but it makes it difficult to play
4/5

Wow! The battery life of the 3DS is greatly increased by this device. My biggest gripe with the original 3DS was that the battery would die after only a few hours, preventing me from using the 3D effect (which, contrary to popular belief, I enjoy and believe adds a level of immersion). I can now play for several hours and leave the 3DS in standby mode for days without having to charge it. br>br>Unfortunately, my most recent gripe is that the 3DS is difficult to hold. After reading other reviews, I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting myself into. The battery adds a significant amount of bulk, both in terms of size and weight, with the majority of the weight now being distributed on the bottom. What I didn't expect was how much this would irritate my hand and fingers after a longer game. br>br>Because of this, I debated whether or not to deduct a star. The battery is functional, the case appears to be more durable than previous reviews had suggested, and mine even came with a small screwdriver for replacing the screws. My battery problems were solved thanks to this product. Finally, I decided that the overall discomfort this added to the product warranted a one-star rating. Deduction of a star. One could argue that this isn't the product's fault because it doesn't advertise itself as anything more than a battery extender and case - That's exactly what it is, and it excels at it - However, I believe it is noteworthy that my once-comfortable 3DS now causes me pain and discomfort. There were no attempts to make this product more ergonomic, such as using a "grippy" material or contours on the back of the case (which is essentially a hard plastic rectangle that hugs the battery), and there appear to be no cases or grips that work with the 3DS with this product installed. br>br>If you have large hands or don't mind the added weight and size, I'd highly recommend this product because it significantly increases battery life. In my case, I'd rather get a cheap Nyko Power Pak that appears to be more ergonomic, despite the fact that it has a significantly lower charge capacity.
