We play games using a different system instead of the original one that slides in and pushes down the game, but yes, this works fine for me. The only thing is if you have a flat screen tv, you might have to adjust the blacklight and colors.
I am still in the process of returning the copy I received - I'm not sure if it's the retro system or the game itself - but it didn't work.
The cartridge I received was the original.
You cannot play this game on any other console but the 8 bit NES.

I enjoyed it. It was challenging. PLAY THIS GAME! e. DO NOT PAY FOR IT! Purchase a NES system and this game, Super Mario Bros. , and take advantage of this great bargain. To fully understand what 'Tanooki' and what a 'Hammer Suit' mean, as well as how weary and long the Dark World is before reaching Bowser's castle, you need to study these terms and learn to appreciate their meanings. Here are some old ads from the Mario Bros. franchise that you should watch. Take a look at the video for Sims 3 on Youtube and you'll see just how popular and anticipated this game was back then. As a kid, I probably played this more than any other game. A long time ago, we had a yard sale where we sold our game console with games as well. The thrift shops I visited didn't have this game or they would overcharge me for it. I had been searching for it there and some stores didn't have it or they overcharged me. The game was in perfect condition when I received it and I couldn't have been happier with my purchase.
