I don't know how the jelly material that's inside the bottle started growing mold, but we found out when it split open after being thrown around for only two months by a 2 year old. They aren't durable or sanitary, so I don't like them. This is not going to be replaced.
I wouldn't say it bounces, but it does float. This was actually an extra as part of a water lacrosse game I bought and it works just fine. It was exciting to see the label on the ball that said it bounced and disappointing to see it doesn't bounce like balls do on hard surfaces. In the center is a squishy ball, which makes it an excellent object for throwing around without fear of injury. The outside of the ball looks like material used for women's swimsuits, and the inside is like a squishy ball. The only purpose for which I would buy again is to have enough or to replace other water games. I would not buy the game again just to bounce around.
These water balls are a huge hit with my pug. The issue of chewing is not a concern for us because she doesn't chew. The throws are excellent and go far, so she has a lot to chase after them.
