About 6 1/2 feet is pretty much the length of the rope swing section. There will be some length added with the strap, but the degree of length will depend on the size of the branch around which it is hanging.
As you lift the disk up the rope, tie a knot at the end. As the disk sits on the knot, bring it down. Leaving the plastic piece at the end of the rope for future use is a good idea. It may be helpful to you.

Although I think this product will be special in a year or so, I am using it right now in combination with my 3 favorites. As a result, the seat tips back immediately when I place my 5 year old on it because she doesn't have long legs to balance her weight. Although she's a little strength, she's not powerful enough to compensate for her lack of balance, making it impossible for her to swing on the swing. As I said, I have no plans to return, since I am confident that she will be swinging her little heart out on it given time. Though I did add some stuffed animals to it and she had a blast pushing those, so score one for me.
It's so great to swing on this! My kids love it, and I love how easy it is to set up. We picked up this swing at the park and used it for picnics, too. It is so easy to get on and off that we use it at the park and bring it to the picnic. You should definitely invest in a swing if your kids are tree climbing age, since you have to scramble up the tree to set it up. It's so wonderful to love so much! Excellent service!
