Mine was moldy when it arrived, so we scrubbed it with bleach right away. It should also be treated against the elements. with the aid of a water-proofing agent It "should" be easy to wipe clean after treatment with that, but this is dependent on the environment to which it is exposed.
Selected User Reviews For KidKraft Outdoor Wooden Table & Bench Set with Cushions and Umbrella, Kids Backyard Furniture, Espresso with Oatmeal and White Stripe Fabric, Gift for Ages 3-8
The poor quality of this item astounded and disappointed me greatly. I have other KidKraft items, and none of them appear to be as poorly constructed as this and the matching double chaise lounger. To begin, I'll state- It was covered in mold, which my husband scrubbed clean before putting it together. I wish I could have been at home to prevent him from putting it together- At that point, I would have simply returned it. It has stain and drip spots from whatever finish was used on it, as well as splintering and missing chunks of wood. as stated by a previous reviewer It doesn't appear to be water resistant, so I went out and bought some water sealant, which my husband will have to apply. However, for the price, I was expecting a MUCH BETTER product for children's furniture.
I thought it would be fine because I was using it on a covered porch, but it has already started to show signs of wear and mildew in the few months I've had it. I intend to do my own cleaning and sealing. I'd rather have spent an extra $50 on something that was designed to be used outside.
The table and benches are adorable. The pillows are of excellent quality. Polyurethaning or painting the wood is a must. As a result, I'm giving it a four-star rating. I had my toddlers "assist" me in putting it together, and we were done in under an hour. Every meal on it is something they want to eat.
My husband spent about an hour putting it together, and he was pleased to see that all of the pieces were present. It looks great in the dark color. br> I can bring the pillows in because they are attached with velco. The umbrella could be a little bigger; it doesn't cover him when he sits on the benches, but it's set up under our large deck, which is shaded anyway. I also bring in my umbrella. I would recommend this product, and we intend to purchase one for our other grandchildren when they move into their new home. Great buy.
I'd say it's a perfect little table set for children under the age of six and weighing less than 60 pounds. The building process has been meticulously planned. It looks a lot like something you'd find at IKEA. It's light enough for my 5-year-old to move it on his own. When it comes to setting up the umbrella, even kids can do it. br>In terms of durability, this type of softwood does not fare well in wet or rainy conditions. If it isn't treated with a wood sealer, I don't think it will last very long. My wife assumed that whenever it began to rain, we would simply move the table and chairs into the garage. Thank you, but no thanks. Apply a layer of sealer and set it aside.
This table was just delivered to me, and it's adorable. The wood, pillows, and umbrella are all of excellent quality. The only drawback is that if you were hoping for a dark brown stain like the one shown, you will be disappointed. The true color of the table can be seen in the photo below; I prefer the lighter shade. Last but not least, the table is ideal for 1. Maximum age range: 5 to 6 years. It can accommodate older children, but it is primarily designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarten students.
BUT,. Softwood that is porous and thristy. There's also a stain layer that's about 1 molecule thick. Even the tiniest scratch or scuff allows the wood to show through, revealing a much lighter color. Without a good sealer, it will not last long when exposed to the elements. I used more stain first because I had some similar and then sealed it with three coats of and outdoor boat varnish thinned 15%. It's been out in the elements for a few months and is still looking good and holding up. However, for the price, you'd expect more. I bought it solely because it looked cute and received mostly positive feedback.
This is our second purchase of this item, and the current one is not performing as well as the previous one. After a month of light use, the wood has split in several places and is no longer secure. The table is swaying from side to side. I'm dissatisfied with the quality for the price, and I don't expect it to last very long. Yes, it's cute, but it's not good quality; it appears as if they didn't completely dry the wood before building it or something, because it's splitting a lot as it dries now.
