I spent a lot of time and effort cleaning and building it only to discover it was not working. I am not fond of things that don't work, so this was a bad purchase. In order to test the solar panel with only the motor, I again disassembled it According to the solar panel, the gearbox is fine, but the gearbox seems to be screwed up. You're wasting your money if you do this! The following update has been made Thus, since I was an engineer, i wasn't willing to accept defeat! It was actually pretty easy to confirm that the solar panel and motor are working just fine once I took it all apart. Then I assembled the gear box again, and checked everything to make sure it was working. Finally we (I enlisted my son in the process as much as possible) got the solar panel and motor working fine Depending on where the gears are you might have to give it a little kick start and turn a wheel ever so slightly to get them to work. I changed my rating, so I had to do it! Getting it to work should be as simple as taking your time and being patient!.

There's a lot of fun in this My favorite part of this device is that the motor runs on solar energy, so no batteries are required. We did this with our 9 yr old and my 7 yr old. My 9 yr old really enjoyed it while my 7 yr old got bored. This purchase is good.
