There isn't a whiff of anything chemical. It's more like treated leather, but to be honest, the overall quality of the product isn't that great. I don't think it's worth the money. It's just a toy, after all.

9 x 2. 3 x 1. According to the page, the height is 9 inches. The box and telescope fit well in an adult's hand, and the grandkids loved them. I would order them again.
I believe it is made of glass. The telescope and box are both fantastic. The materials are of exceptional quality - The telescope is made of brass and leather. I had a great time.

Finally, the odor has vanished. My son has played with it and subjected it to a lot of abuse, and to my surprise, it has held up quite well, so I'm giving it a couple more stars. My son received this as a gift. I get a headache right away from the chemical odor. I wouldn't put my faith in the comments on this site. The five-star hotels, in particular. Please take a look at the attached images and make your own decision. But for display, it's probably only worth $5 or less. I'm not going to let my kid touch it. It appears to be very susceptible to breakage.
a good deal This one performs as expected, and it was the ideal size for my 6-year-old. The reason for the four stars, however, is as follows: It arrived in a box that isn't very appealing. I understand it's a budget toy, but the wooden box's hinges are rusted and the front is chipped where my daughter would put her fingers to open it. We're attempting to return it in order to obtain a replacement. This is something I bought for my son years ago and it worked fine, so I believe it is this box. The spy glass itself is ideal for younger children and adults, and I've never had any problems with it cracking or shattering.
It was about half the size of what I had anticipated. Still, it's a charming ornament. The back of the hinge is rough cut, but you won't notice until you pick it up and turn it over.
Very attractive, well-built, and made of good materials. It was the perfect match for a pirate treasure chest that I gave to my granddaughter. She enjoys going through it and looking at it.
It's small and compact, but it's a solid piece of equipment. It has been a hit with my two boys, ages 8 and 4, who have enjoyed pretending to be pirates with it.
It's very nice and you can't beat the price. The wood box is lovely, and the telescope is a nice little gem.
This appears to be an excellent choice. I bought it to use as a costume prop, but it's probably too small at only 6" tall.
There's no need to push it. To allow my 6-year-old daughter to gaze at the stars, I purchased this item. It's almost invisible.
