My mother saw this game and wanted to buy it so she could play it on our trip, but they only had the display game left, which was not for sale. She was incredibly disappointed! When we got home, I went straight to my computer and began searching for anything I could think of. Amazon is a reliable resource, as well as - voila! There was a game that was identical to the one in the store, but it was a dollar cheaper. I ordered it right away through Amazon Prime (which, by the way, I adore!). ), it arrived a few days later, and I presented it to my mother for Easter. She was overjoyed to the point of ecstasy. She is so excited that it will help refresh her memory of the location of each state in the United States, aside from being a game to play on the road and so on. It's a great "brain teaser" for her, as well as a fun game for the whole family to play, especially on road trips, and it's extremely well made. Elastic holds the game's pieces in place, ensuring that they never fall out - What an outstanding concept! I can't say enough good things about this product! Amazon, thank you so much! xox.
So, every summer, I take a road trip from North Carolina to Montana and back. I frequently travel with a companion. Every time I go on a trip, I bring this game with me and hand it to my passenger, saying, "We're going to play the license plate game. " "Okayyyy. . . " they say as they look at me. After that, we arrived at I- They start getting different states and flipping the various wooden license plates over, and all of a sudden they're all in. It never fails to amaze me. One of my favorite memories with this game is giving it to our grandchildren in the Yellowstone Park parking lot near Old Faithful and letting them loose to explore. In one sitting, they were able to collect 46 plates. My mother, who is now 88, had a great time looking for them on a road trip one year. We're giving the game to each of our five children's families this year, and I'm sure it'll become part of their road trip lore as well. Doug, I appreciate it. Thank you, Melissa, for the memories. (PS: I'd like to point out that people from Maine and Rhode Island should travel west because those are always the most difficult to come by) =).
My mother would always have a notebook and pen with her, and we would search for all of the license plates as we went along, attempting to collect all 50 states. My mother would then challenge us to guess each state's capital. br>br>Now that I'm older and enjoy traveling with my own family, I like to carry on the tradition by playing the license plate game with them while we're on the road. I despise having to carry a notebook and pen in the car because they get thrown around and strewn about. I saw this one year while staying in the Star Valley area of Wyoming, but it was $50, and I figured it would be easy to make my own, so I passed it up. That was four years ago. My parents now have a magnetic license plate game, which they like, but they say the magnets aren't very strong and still tend to get shifted and moved around as you open and close the game during our last family road trip. br>br>While searching on Amazon, I came across this and ordered it for our family to have something to take with us on our trip. I like this board because it's thick and doesn't feel like it'll fall apart; however, I wish it were just a little bit smaller so it could fit underneath a seat or in the glove box, which is why I only gave it four stars instead of five. The license plates are held in place nicely and securely, so they won't fall off or get messed up. It's helpful to have the state capitals printed on the back so you can look them up if you forget. ) The red and blue are supposed to be used for team games, but my family used them to try to figure out which state was red and which state was blue. br>br>Melissa and Doug have done it again, producing a high-quality product at a reasonable price; this game is fantastic and will keep kids occupied as they search for as many license plates as they can. What a fun game to play in the car with your family, and I like how it can be used as a teaching tool to teach children about the 50 states and their capitals.
I bought this as a Christmas present for my nine-year-old son in anticipation of a road trip. He gave it four stars because it was "fun. " I like how the pieces are attached to the board with heavy-duty elastic, but the biggest disappointment is that when we removed the plastic shrink wrap, we inadvertently removed the printing on at least 7 or 8 of the pieces! I replaced it with another, but one of the plates was damaged once more. I decided to keep it and am currently applying five coats of Mod Podge to protect the pieces. It's made of sturdy wood; it's just that the paint printed on top can be scraped off with even light use. It was on sale for $9 at the time. For a while, it was 99 cents here; I waited too long and had to pay $15 for it. I believe it would be worth even more money if the prints on the pieces were not so easily damaged. br>br>Update: We've had it for a year and a half and still take it on road trips, but despite the Mod Podge, the paint on the pieces has continued to deteriorate disproportionately to their use, and the side is beginning to split open.
Win!.
br>br>I would buy it again, but if it's a gift, order ahead of time. I would have given ours as a gift, but I've read that some people's were very bad looking, with names tilted or double-stated by accident!.
