The two of you should be able to play with one set, but it probably won't be enough if you're not an advanced player. As they are double sided, they can be used for either a +/+ or a - as desired

It has a very crisp look and is very sturdy. It isn't just that we are a mix of new players, casual players, and seasoned participants, but we love to bring things to the table that add to the flair of our side of the battle. It's pretty cool how these work. The markers are of high quality, have a good finish, and appear professional. Prices would be more reasonable if they were a bit more affordable. If they made solitary markers (+1/+0 and +0/+1), I would buy them as well. Despite its high price, it is highly recommended if it is worth your while.
When you're playing a deck with a lot of counters, it's easy to get more into the groove. In the future, maybe they'll offer versions with +3/+3 or +5/+5. If I were you, I would definitely purchase.
