Melissa has been the gold standard in childhood play for over 30 years.

Questions & Answers

Could someone give me the dimensions of some of the pieces for reference, such as the largest and smallest?

I'm not sure how big the biggest piece is, but it's probably three to four inches. Squares and triangles are smaller, with a maximum size of one. 5 inches and 2 inches I purchased them for my seven-year-old, but my eleven-month-old also enjoys them. The only issue I have with the baby playing with them is that he only has two teeth and can easily chew the paint off. As a result, it is not suitable for children.

What makes the 100-block set cheaper than the 60-block set?

These blocks are a fraction of the size of the standard 60-piece unit block set.

Is there a chart with pictures of things that can be built that the child can try to recreate?

There isn't a chart, no building pictures, or anything like that. Doug provides the blocks, while your child provides the creativity and imagination.

Is there a storage container included with this?

A sturdy cardboard box with a handle houses our 100-piece wood block set. The blocks should fit in the box (and in your socks). LOL! ) when you aren't busy erecting magnificent structures!

The blocks had only been in use for two weeks when they began to fall apart, posing a choking and splinter risk

The product is of poor quality and may be hazardous
3/5

Melissa helped me choose between three different brands of blocks that I purchased on Amazon. Doug's was the most dreadful of the three. I've had good luck with them before, so I purchased these without reading the reviews. Even though I mixed them in with her other blocks, my toddler stopped using these as soon as the better blocks arrived. She does, however, offer Daddy the opportunity to play with them. Adorable. Let me say it again: br>br> My 2- year- These blocks were rejected by old because they were of poor quality. I'm glad she did because they had the potential to harm her. br>br>Of the 100 blocks in the set, two have split. We were fortunate in that they both split cleanly in the middle, rather than producing jagged wooden shards or splinters, as some other reviewers have experienced. Because the majority of reviews are positive, this must be an exceptional case. When it comes to a toy for small children, however, RARELY shattering into knife or needle-like fragments isn't good enough. br>br>On this basis, I give these a one-star rating, an insult reserved for truly defective goods. I'd give these two or three stars if it weren't for that. br>br>They were adamant about keeping the cost of production low. They are, in fact. In every way, they are inexpensive. The blocks have only been lightly sanded, and the wood still has some flaws, primarily voids and wood grain. They tried to hide it with one of the most drab and unattractive paints I've ever seen. The paint has a chalky appearance and feel, and the colors aren't particularly vibrant. Both competing brands are sanded and coated with a beautiful high-gloss finish. paint with a high gloss finish br>br>Despite the fact that they are only slightly smaller than the other 100, they are much more difficult to stack. I believe it's primarily due to their light weight and the fact that some of the blocks (particularly the longer ones) are noticeably warped. Melissa br>br>Melissa br>br>Melissa br>br>Mel Doug's brand is being harmed by this shoddy product.

This toy-like set of blocks is not to be purchased
3/5

I'd return them if the box hadn't gotten tossed in the flurry of Christmas gift opening. I was perplexed by their low cost. You're mistaken if you think these blocks look like the ones you've seen before, as I did. These are completely useless due to their small size. Only an adult with exceptional fine motor skills could construct what is depicted in the listing. Kids can't be that precise because they're too small. Melissa is one of my favorite people. Products made by Doug. This is a complete and utter failure.

For children under the age of eight, this is a potentially dangerous situation
3/5

My 2nd block broke while I was working on it. It was being used by a 5-year-old boy. As a result, a potentially hazardous situation was created.

The well-being of the people is of poor quality
3/5

This product was advertised as a well-known brand, and I was looking forward to receiving it, but it arrived damaged! (There are a lot of Melissas in my house. ) From puppets and puzzles to pretend food, Doug has it all. Since I was three years old, I've been buying high-quality wooden toys. year- Despite the fact that the item was only a few months old, it did not meet expectations. Approximately ten of the blocks arrived chipped in an odd, ill-looking manner. The edges appeared to be discolored, cracked, and almost rotten. I will not use these because they are so unsightly, and many of the other blocks arrived with small cracks that are a complete disappointment. It's possible that I got a bad batch, but for the price, it's not acceptable. I'm going to think twice about buying Melissa. The blocks are small, so having one-third of them arrive damaged limits the number of things you can build with them.

Towers will love it
5/5

This was a gift for our baby at Christmas. Now that he's ten months old, he adores this set. It's a game that his 10-year-old brother and their father play with it. They build towers out of blocks, and the baby squeals and crawls over to knock them down. Everyone is having a great time, and they've held up admirably to being shoved into a drooling baby's mouth. Although they aren't small enough to be swallowed, I only allow the baby to play with the smaller pieces when she is supervised. The semicircles and small triangle pieces are still a little small, and I believe that a determined baby could wedge them in their mouth long enough to cause an upset. According to our son's pediatrician, the rule of thumb for choking hazards is that if it fits in a toilet paper roll, it's a choking hazard. I took a photo to show that all of the pieces can fit in a TP roll, but you shouldn't have any problems as long as you're supervising. This block set is fantastic, and we would recommend it to anyone with young children.

They're also very attractive
3/5

On the other hand, I'm not sure how I feel about these blocks. They are very popular with my one-year-old daughter, and they are very attractive. br>However, some of the shapes are a little smaller than I would have preferred. I'm afraid she'll take them and put them in her mouth. I chose those blocks for the time being; she'll be able to use them as she grows older. Several blocks had also been severely chipped or dented, resulting in splintered edges and chipping paint. These are not toys I want my daughter to play with. br>As long as you inspect each of the blocks you receive and throw away any that are damaged, you should be fine; the quality isn't great (certainly not Melissa and Doug's standard), but they are still acceptable for the price.

Although the quality is excellent, they are extremely small
3/5

This is something I bought for my 8-month-old daughter to play with, and she loves it. I obviously supervise her and know she'll get more enjoyment out of them as she gets older, but it's still a fun toy for her to play with. So far, I'm pleased with the quality of the wood and paint, and I like the colors she chose. As she gets older, it'll be fun to play games like sorting all of the colors into piles, sorting all of the shapes, and so on. Because it didn't come with anything to store the blocks in, I used the box it came in as a storage container for them. I can't imagine a three-year-old wanting to play with these because of the size, but they're the perfect size for my eight-month-old right now, lol. I would suggest investing in larger blocks, but I bought these because they were on the cheaper side. br>br>UPDATE: I gave them back to you. When she's older than two years old, I don't think she'll be interested in these small blocks.
