Questions & Answers
They come in a variety of shapes and are made of hard plastic. It's about 1 1/2 inches wide and maybe 1/2 inch thick. The case is a soft carrying case made of clear plastic that allows the child to see inside.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. When I called the company, they assured me that it was BPA-free.
I don't like making broad assumptions about children's abilities, but few 9-month-olds have the hand-eye coordination to match shapes to holes. They would, however, enjoy handling the case and playing with the pieces. It's a great travel toy, and they'll figure out how to use it properly in no time. This gift would be ideal for a child aged 18 months to two years, in my opinion.
Royal Stitches does not currently ship outside of the United States.

Our son enjoys shape sorters, and we wanted to find one that could accompany us on our travels. So far, this has met our needs because it is the only one that zips shut to prevent pieces from falling out, but there is a design flaw that frustrates our almost two-year-old. There isn't enough depth in the bag. And by that I mean that once you've completed your fourth shape, you'll need to shake the bag a little to get the next shape in because there's usually something in the way. When a parent is present to assist, this is fine, but when our little guy (22 months) is playing alone, he usually freaks out when he can't get the piece in by himself. This toy would be a huge hit if it came with a bigger bag.
With a 22-month-old and a 7-month-old, I took this on a one-month trip overseas. Toys are limited to only a few versatile basic ones because each of their needs takes up so much space. Thought it was for the almost two-year-old, but both of them enjoyed playing with it. The child who enjoys practicing shapes the most is almost two years old. It's compact and collapsible, so it's ideal for travel. We used it to keep the kids entertained on international flights as well as in hotel rooms at night.
I bought this to keep my 18-month-old entertained on a long plane trip two years ago. We didn't take it because there are so many pieces to lose, the toy is noisy when shaken (all the hollow plastic pieces), and my toddler was frustrated trying to push the shapes through because it's fabric and collapsible and too shallow. Now, two years later, I have two toddlers and I still despise this toy. I really want to like it because we adore Melissa and Doug toys and we travel a lot, so we prefer portable toys. This one, however, is different. It's also our priciest shape sorter by a long shot. I'm not sure how much it's worth. For how frustrating this toy is, the product ratio appears to be off. However, it is well-made and extremely portable, so read the reviews and see if this is something you're looking for; it wasn't for us.
Pros:
1. The colors are vibrant and appealing. br>2. Probably one of the few online travel toys. br>3. Has the majority of the shapes and related items you'd like to teach your childbr>4. The depth of the bag was not a concern for me. Although a deeper bag would be preferable, I set it on the table and let my 17-month-old play with it.
Cons:
1. If you're walking with the bag and aren't paying attention, the shapes will fall out. br>2. The toy isn't particularly entertaining. It was a constant battle to get my son to return to it. After 5 minutes, he was bored with the toy. br>3. Dimensional flaws, such as a star shape, can be pushed through a square or circle, resulting in incorrect instruction to a child.
4. The semi circle should have been replaced with a basic shape like a rectangle, in my opinion. br>br>Because I don't have any other good travel toys besides flash cards, I'd keep this one for a few days and see how my lo reacts.
This was a Christmas present for my 6-month-old son at the time. It's still one of her favorite toys now that she's a year old. It has a lot of advantages: It's a great on-the-go toy that can be used in a variety of ways. She loves the little dog zipper pull, and the other side has crinkly flaps to lift and pictures to learn shapes and colors, whether she's sorting shapes or simply loading them up and dumping them out. Apart from the side with the shape holes, everything is soft, making it a great toy for a play pen, unlike most shape sorters, which are hard plastic on all sides. There's also enough room for a few more toys, such as small people or a board book, making it ideal for taking a small play set with you on the go. I've always adored Melissa and Doug, but I've mostly stuck to their wooden toys, but this toy proves that the other toys are just as well-made and thoughtfully designed. I would definitely recommend this, and I will most likely use it as a go-to baby gift!.
The pouch is not deep enough, but it has a double side and a zipper for extra fine motor practice. Because the shapes are made of material rather than sold plastic (which is nice because it doesn't crack if stepped on), they don't always fall completely into the holes (picture 1). If the shapes are picked up, they fall to the bottom, preventing them from being inserted into the holes (picture 2). This is a source of frustration for toddlers.
To begin, I'd like to state that we usually enjoy Melissa and Doug's products, which is why I was so disappointed with this one. It's a dreadful piece of work. As other reviewers have stated (and I should have paid attention), the box is far too shallow, causing frustration in the toddler who is playing with it because the shapes have nowhere to go. To make room for the next one, an adult must sit in the box and shake it each time. This was a very disappointing product with a lot of promise.
It's a hit with my 6-month-old son. The pieces are small enough for her to hold while still being able to put them in her mouth. She even flips it over and messes around with the paper flaps on the other side of the shape holes. When hand washed, it came out beautifully, and it's perfect for taking to Grandma's house.
