If you put it in a cool pool, it will not change well. A little heat will be helpful. As a six-year-old, my daughter is not fond of very hot water in the bath. Unfortunately, not much changes in this product. The only colors that change are the moon/stars on the body of the horse Even if we make our water really hot or very warm, the mane and tail will stay the same color. Furthermore, this horse traps SO much water on the inside, which makes its coat so wet. Mold will grow quickly on it. Ours is designed to stand on its butt, which allows water to drain out of the tail hole. I think this is a great toy, but it shouldn't be used in water. Breyer's approach is not at all what I'd expect. Despite the lack of solidity, the pony is nevertheless made of good quality plastic. I would have thought that the mold would be easier to handle than it actually is. Despite the color change, it is amazing to see. When the spots were splashed with hot water, they turned from the bright pink to white. My daughter loved splashing the spots in the hot water. This is a fun toy, but the quality is not as good as I would normally.
I had to open the box to view pink spots (they are supposed to be purple when cooling). The product was quickly returned by Amazon to me. I decided to try another one since I really thought my daughters (3 and 6) would like it. I think it was better since it didn't have those pink spots, but I think it did have some imperfections around the edges. The toy is also lightly scratched and it has only been a few weeks since we bought it. As opposed to some, we have not had issues with it holding water. Overall, I think the toy is worth the money because my kids get a lot of use out of it, but I am disappointed about the quality of it, as I had hoped it would be amazing.
