Half sheet of standard printer paper is included in the package. 5” x 5. This size is available for purchase or can be made by folding an 8. 5 x 11 folded in half A4 would work as well, but the margins would be a little off.
It's aimed at children aged 3 and up, according to the advertisements.
The markers are the thinner, shorter ones - a pen/pencil's circumference vs. a dime, such as those larger Crayola ones The tips are finer than a regular sharpie, but they aren't extra fine. To work, the tips would have to be finer than your average sharpie (I realize sharpies are the furthest thing from washable, but that's all I have to go on). Crayolas are available in a variety of colors and sizes. Crayola Pip Squeaks or Super Tips are likely to work, but not the standard fat Crayola marker.

I like how half sheets of paper are used. We can fold a sheet in half so that they can draw on both sides before moving on to the next sheet. The paper is nicely held in place between the layers, and the gears are large enough that they don't fly off the page but small enough that they can be used to create different designs. I keep it in a zip pouch with a small stack of papers to pull out at restaurants and other places where I need them to be occupied for a while, and I'm hoping to have them use it in the car once our summer travel season begins. Oh, and we've also used it with crayola fine tip kids markers, which worked well. So, if your kids are like mine and eat up markers, you're not out of luck. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe the pipsqueak markers will fit in the same slots as the regular markers.
This is ideal for our 5-year-old. Our 7-year-old son had recently received the original Spirograph, which was relatively simple to use for the rest of us, but our 5-year-old struggled to keep the gear teeth engaged (which was understandably frustrating). The wider gear teeth on this Junior version make it easier for small hands with developing motor skills to use. It's a good size for everyday use while still being small enough to take with you on the go. The gears and markers are kept together with the base by the storage area, and the top snaps down on the paper to keep it in place. He has no problems with it and enjoys the fact that he can use his Junior version while his older brother uses the original.
This is a fantastic activity for children to participate in. We got a new spirograph set, and it was a complete disaster! It took an adult to keep the thing from moving and prevent the spirals from slipping beneath the frame. With this set, you won't have any problems! This one does not require adult assistance to use. It's built to last. It can be used independently by children without the assistance of another person. The gears are easy to move around in the tracks. It's a little chunkier, so it's a little easier to use and pick up the pieces. It's simple to clean; all you need is a wet wipe. This set can also be used with any thin marker or pen. My only gripes are: There are no refill packs available! Uhg! And the markers that come with it aren't washable.
She was able to manipulate and use it on her own and had a great time doing so! Sturdy and well-made. It's convenient to have a case to keep track of the pieces. I would strongly suggest it.
This is fantastic! There are so many different styles and colors to choose from! I also like how everything fits neatly into the small lap desk case. This is ideal for keeping your child entertained while you work from home. We'll definitely bring this in the car or on plane rides once it's safe to do so to keep our son occupied.
I bought the regular version for my 7 1/2-year-old daughter, and she was disappointed because her teeth were too small and the ring moved around. Both problems are solved in the junior version, which is also small enough to take with you on a trip or in a restaurant. I deducted a star because the latch isn't very good, but I still recommend it.
It's simple to use, and they have a great time playing with it. The only disadvantage is that it only comes with markers, and the holes are too small for crayons. This, in my opinion, renders it useless for use on a road trip. I understand that pencils and pencil colors work as well, but they have a sharper point, which can be dangerous for younger children if not supervised.
Eight half-sheets 5 x 11 paper works well and fits inside the individual pieces, making it very practical. The gears are thick and the kids have no trouble with the fine motor skills required to use it correctly because everything is kept inside the case, so no pieces get lost. I haven't tried it with any other markers or pens yet, so I can't comment on that.
