Questions & Answers

Is this the same as sand that is cool?

The two types of sand I'm familiar with are kinetic sand, which I bought for my niece and nephew, and "squand," which you drizzle into water and it hardens; once you scoop it out, it's sand again, but you can't mold, shape, or play with it. Kinetic sand is similar to ordinary sand, but it molds like wet beach sand. The molds can be used to create shapes and sand castles, among other things. It adheres to itself, making cleanup a breeze!

Does the colored sand leave a stain on your hands or clothing?

If the sand is too wet, the color may transfer to your hands, but it is easily removed with soap and water. This is sand that a two-year-old plays with, so I've never seen it stick to anything.

Is it melted when you hold it in your hands?

This product is sand that does not melt and can be squeezed and molded in the same way that wet sand can. This sand, on the other hand, does not dry out and can be used for hours.

Is this something like kinetic sand?

Yes, it's comparable to kinetic sand.

Selected User Reviews For NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Play Sand - 2 LBS of Sand with Castle Molds and Tray (Blue) - A Kinetic Sensory Activity

I was extremely dissatisfied with this sand because I had previously used another brand of kinetic sand that had been fantastic
3/5

It clung to each other like a magnet, leaving no messes on the table or on my hands. This blue sand seemed like a fun thing to have out on my coffee table for people to play with. I enjoy National Geographic magazines and special editions, and I expected high-quality sand from them, but this sand was awful. It wasn't just bad; it was abysmal. It didn't stick together, stained my fingers and the tabletop blue, and lacked the cool texture of the other brand I bought. There were also shards of sand scattered across the floor and table top. With the correct specialty sand, that shouldn't happen, so I repackaged it and returned it. br>br>I then bought the Kinetic sand from Amazon (which was identical to the sand I remembered playing with in a store). It does not leave any residue on your hands or work surface. It clings to each other in the most incredible and satisfying way possible. I transferred it to a shallow wooden tray I had on hand and embellished it with some homemade tools to add to the fun. I made a rake, a small shovel, and a couple of small cup-shaped tools. Containers, for example, could be used to construct structures. Fimo and bamboo skewers were used to create these. I haven't had any visitors in the days since I set it out on the table, but I've found myself picking up the tray and playing with it. It's strangely satisfying, and I'm surprised it's not a smidgeon messy. It also doesn't get drier. You will be disappointed if you buy this product, I strongly advise you not to. And blue. To find out what this sand is supposed to be like, pick up the other brand.

It is not something I would suggest
3/5

This sand sticks to my children's clothes and hands, and it's impossible to get off rugs; it almost appears to stain both skin and fabric. I had something similar that I bought at a chain crafts store, but I don't recall having the problems I've had with this sand. I'm not sure if it's because of the bright color or because of the product's poor quality, but I wouldn't recommend it in either case.

I'm so sorry that I mixed it up with our other sand in our kinetic sand stash
3/5

We purchased this sand to add to our kinetic sand collection, and I am so disappointed that I mixed it in with the rest of our sand because it is of such poor quality. Because it is less sticky than our other sand, it smeared all over our clothes and the floor almost immediately. My child's hands and clothing were stained with the pigment.

Horrible
3/5

Just to get it to work, I had to add a little water. Horrible. After leaving it out for more than an hour as the directions stated, we had to add a little water to try to moisten it, which stained our hands and made a complete mess.

It's entertaining, but it's a complete disaster
3/5

It is very popular with my daughter, but it creates a huge mess. I assumed the sand would be more cohesive. There was a lovely pink dusk all over the place.

It's a fantastic product that's a lot of fun to play with
4/5

To compare the two, I bought this and a bag of Kinetic sand from a well-known brand. Here's what I found out. br>br>The Nat Geo brand is finer grain sand that is a little direr and lighter in color than the name brand. (I bought the natural/uncolored for each type. ) ) However, it displays fine detail far better than the name brand and is more pleasant to the touch due to the finer grain sand's smoother and softer feel. It has a fluffy feel to it. br>br>Because the name brand is moister and stiffer, it keeps its shape better. It also appears to last longer because it does not leave sand on your hands like the Nat Geo brand, which loses a small amount of sand every time it is played with because it sticks to hands and clothes. br>br>It's difficult for me to choose between the two brands because they're both excellent. I combined the two sands in the same container in the hopes that they would blend well. If I have any difficulties mixing the two sands, I will try to update my review. br>br>One drawback I must mention is that the Nat Geo box was overrun with ants. I'm not sure if these ants were picked up at the manufacturing facility, the Amazon warehouse, or in transit to my house, but there had to be at least 4 dozen ants. br>.

It is easy to clean
5/5

The fact that National Geographic used molds of famous structures earns them bonus points - Taj Majal, Giza Pyramids, and Chichen Itza are just a few examples. I wish they would identify the structures on the packaging, because I didn't even notice them at first!br>br>Let's face it - we're all guilty of this! Whatever you do, sand in your home will be a mess. Yes, we must vacuum afterward, but my son's chair's upholstered seat was never stained. It does a great job of sucking up all of the dust. br>br>It does stick to my son's hands, but it washes off easily. The color between his fingers stays a little longer when his hands are particularly clammy, but it fades after one or two hand washes (see photo after one wash). "It's softer than the sand in the blue box," my son says, referring to the Kinetic Sand brand. In my opinion, National Geographic's sand is much smoother and less sticky than Kinetic Sand Beach Sand. br>br>Overall, I prefer National Geographic's sand to Kinetic Sand Beach Sand.

The other colors are fine, and the kids are having a great time with them; I purchased all three colors as an Easter gift, and the green one is completely dry
