My daughter and I made these the night before. They were simple to use and turned out beautifully. We began by using sharpies, but they turned out to be too dark. Colored pencils are far superior to ordinary pencils. Cooking pieces of the same size at the same time is also recommended; otherwise, the smaller pieces will not shrink properly and the larger ones will curl. However, it is a fantastic product; we had a great time making them together, and I intend to order more when we run out.
It was, after all, a water-related incident. I half expected this to happen, and I'm sure Sharpie or some other oil-based marker will do the trick. Fineliners with a water-based base will be ideal. br>br>I also experimented with a heart-shaped cutout that had a smaller heart cut into it. That didn't work because the thinner part curled and stuck to the other side during baking (it didn't happen with a smaller keychain hole), so I took it out and manually fixed it before returning it to the oven, hoping it would fix itself. It did until I took it out of the pan and tried to remove it, at which point it curled back up and became misshaped, unable to be repaired. So, if you're going to cut shapes into the drawing, here's some advice: Make it as big as you can without going overboard! br>br>If used and baked correctly, I stand by my 5-star rating.
- ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW: BR>ORIGINAL REVIEW br>At first, I had a problem with that one star review, which curled and I couldn't flatten it quickly enough by putting a heavy book on top of it. I had no idea that these things are supposed to curl before magically flattening out! When I saw it curl, I freaked out and took it out too soon, but DON'T FREAK OUT! They will flatten out if you leave them in there for a few more seconds. Remove it from the oven once it has flattened and allow it to cool before tinkering with it. I even put the first failed attempt back in the oven, and it flattened out on its own - That was after it had cooled and hardened completely! It was unnecessary for me to place a book on top of it. br>br>About 5-years ago, I drew a picture. A regular hole puncher shrinks down to perfect keychain hole size, and I used prismacolor pencils and it looks great. 6" tall (almost the entire page) and it shrank to about 2" tall, perfect keychain size Because it appears to smudge, I'll probably apply an epoxy resin layer on top at some point. If I do that (as well as when I try fineliner markers on them), I'll update my review to let you know how it goes. br>br>So, in a nutshell: Don't take it out of the oven until it's completely flat; if you do, you can always return it to the oven to fix it! Keep an eye on it and you'll be able to tell when it's finished.
These were absolutely fantastic! I used these to make handprint keychains for my students' parents as a Christmas present. Before I baked them, I grabbed their hand, let them color them, and then used a hike punch to make a joke for the chain. The best tools for coloring them were color pencils, markers, and sharpies. This was not the case with paint. The quantity of paper and accessories included in the package is a great deal. I've already placed an order for more for a different project.
They're incredibly cute. This was purchased as a gift for someone, and it turned out beautifully! It's a good idea to bake them two-thirds of the way through the cooking process. They won't flatten out properly if you bake them for more than 3 minutes. 2 on occasion It all depends on how big you want them to be. If the cookies are larger, bake them for a longer time. When they're done baking, quickly remove them from the oven and place them on a counter, covering them with a book or a board and pressing down hard; if they cool too quickly, return them to the oven for another 1-minute. After 2 minutes, or until it appears to be sufficiently heated, flatten them out further. Colored pencils and sharpies are also excellent choices. To get the best result, those show up well; overall, these were really cute, and they shrink about 1. If you bake them long enough, they will grow to be 5 times their original size. If you want to fit the keychains on them, make sure to punch a hole the size of a hole puncher. I'd buy it again, and the price was excellent!.
It came with everything that was stated on the box. I used my Cricut Maker to cut this out. It cuts, but it takes a long time, and I don't think I taped it down tightly enough because it shifted a little during the cutting process. Also, I didn't give it enough passes because a few pieces got stuck and the plastic cracked when I tried to punch them out. Because this isn't designed to be run through a cutting machine, none of this will have an impact on my rating. Just some advice if you want to use a cutting machine; I gave it four stars because I expected the pieces to be clearer once baked, but they are still cloudy. They do, however, work.
It appeals to me. We traced and colored my son's and nephew's hands. So, these were the size of a typical 4-year-old hand, and they shrank down perfectly; I was concerned about how they would work because of their size, but they worked perfectly.
These arrived exactly as described, with plenty of sheets to make your own shrinky dinks. Colored pencils and markers were used to achieve a pleasing result. It took some experimenting to get items to shrink up to the desired size by drawing them in various sizes, but there are enough sheets in this set that you won't feel like you're wasting valuable material. They shrunk exactly as described in the oven. They only took a few minutes to curl up and flatten after being placed on parchment paper on a baking sheet. Before baking, my daughter punched holes in some cutouts and used them to make earrings. We would buy this set again in a heartbeat.
I'd recommend leaving your shrinkydinks in for longer than the recommended 2 minutes, as they don't always shrink and flatten out as quickly as they should; just keep an eye on them. Using a clear gloss or even nail polish to protect the color and give it a nice sheen is also a good idea.
