Amazon has deciphered this. I started looking for a Carhartt FR shirt, but be wary of products that claim to be FR but don't have the FR insignia on them. Amazon has pulled off yet another bait and switch.
One of the reviews claimed it wasn't compliant with NFPA 2112, but the tag clearly states so. I suppose it's a different story if you want it sewn on your sleeve. It's an extremely durable shirt-- It's made of a thick material that appears to be warm. It appears to go on indefinitely.
The shirt is well-fitting and seems to be well-made. However, there is no explicit tag or evidence that the shirt is a Fire Resistant Shirt, which would normally have an ASTM code on a tag and, in some cases, a label on the sleeve indicating that it is.
Every day, I weld as a union ironworker. My shirts usually have holes by the second or third time I wear them. I've only worn my Ur shield work shirt with FR protection about five times so far, but no holes have appeared. Every time I put it on, I'm surprised at how soft and comfortable it is, and how well it fits. It's more of a dress shirt than a work shirt, but my wife, who does my laundry most of the time, and yes, I occasionally help, thinks it's a work shirt. She bemoans the fact that she can't use fabric softener on it, so she has to keep it separate from the rest of my laundry. The tag specifically states that fabric softeners should not be used on the shirt in order to improve the FR value's efficiency.
Because I weld and grind metal, I always have burned holes in my work shirts. I don't have to be concerned about anything now. Also, the fabric quality is excellent; I love it and plan to purchase more.
Be wary of this shirt; it's a fake that doesn't follow the rules.
My son is attending welding school, and while I cannot vouch for the shirt's warmth (it's currently hot in SE Texas), I believe it will be adequate for our climate. It's fairly tough, but a snap closure rather than a button would be preferable. My son claims that it is very comfortable. BUT, because he is a picky eater, his so-called So it's possible that someone is fine; I bought him three of these shirts as an extra layer of protection while welding, as he has already burned his belly and arm a little! So far, the protection has been adequate.
It's a waste of money because when I get the shirt out of the box, it's not even FR! So dissatisfied. br>br>.
