Questions & Answers

What is the purpose of this device for? Can it be installed in a drain or a ?

This product must not be used on any drain, as the directions warn against it! The hose/pipe must have water in it for it to work or else it will get too hot and damage it.

I am interested in using this on a 1 PC. I have a tankless hot water heater that drains through a 5" pvc pipe. There is usually no water in the pipe, but it leads through the wall to the In the winter, the temperature drops below zero. ?

Use this product only on PVC that is always submerged in water, according to the manufacturer. In that case, the PVC will not function if it doesn't have water all the time.

Is it likely that I'll melt snow and moisture from my Davis rain gauge if I wrap this around or inside it? Will it melt the plastic too much and overheat?

A parallel pipe is not wrapped with it, it is tied to it. I think the rain gauge would work if it was three feet long. The plastic may get damaged or melt if it is wrapped.

Specifically made for water sphigots, but not well made for fish
5/5

The user should not use this for water faucets or hydrants since it does not work with them. . According to the manual, it is not recommended to wrap the device around any pipe, spigot, or hydrant. There ought to be a statement in the advertisement, but there is In order to install this product, you must install it along a 3 foot straight water-filled metal or plastic pipe 3/4" or more in diameter. I bought a 5" pipe for a spray / hydrant, but it doesn't However, I will hold on to it.

Get a test done before it gets too cold
3/5

A 9ft version was installed on my water pipes below my house shortly after the end of summer 2019 to prevent them from freezing as they were prone to freezing. I am going to install it tonight, and I have already tested it by setting it outside and placing a bag of ice on the thermostat. A Kilowatt meter showed that I used about 50 watts of power while heating the tape, and it was warm to the touch, but not too erecting it, I wrapped an ice wrap around the thermostat and taped it up one more time to ensure that it was still functioning. I was satisfied with its performance. We had our first big freeze of 5 below zero during our first winter and I wrapped all of the pipe insulation and surprised to find my pipes frozen the next day. With my kilowatt meter, it shows that none of the power is being consumed. When the pipe should have been turned on, the temperature was 18F at the thermostat, so the thermostat should not have been It was the same story as last time. I took the heat tape/wrap out and laid it across the floor. I put a bag of ice over the thermostat. A total of 0 watts are being used. Regardless of whether the thermostat failed because it was trying to keep the pipe warm or not, the previous self regulating heat tape I had for 15 years lasted much longer before it failed. Sit a bag of ice across the thermostat before a big freeze to test it out. Thus, you're not forced to deal with frozen pipes when it's extremely cold outside.

method of preventing frost from forming on all types of water lines
5/5

Take a moment to read the instructions. During installation, there is no need to fold back the wire on itself and the exposed water line may not be exactly the same length. Instructions walk you through wrapping it in such a manner that it uses excess without being rolled up.

It was a short trip
3/5

In spite of the fact that it is advertised as being 3 to 4 feet long, the package states "3 to 4 feet. ". Measured with a tape measure, it's 34 inches long. In order to perform our application effectively, we needed at least 3 feet and 21 watts, so we requested an exchange, and Amazon dutifully sent a different device. The number 34 is on this one. The cable is cut at 5 inches and has a gap in the middle. It is a shame that Frost King has such poor quality control. As part of our testing, we used a Kill-Test on both cables Under the thermostat and on top of it, there are Watts and bags of ice. I have to wait FOR them to turn on I spent about 10 minutes on this. Perhaps it is okay to have a little thermal inertia, but that was not what we were expecting.

You need to heat pipes subject to cold if you need trickle heating
5/5

It is over 2 feet higher than the foundation of my house that my Bosch dishwasher is located in my kitchen. The extension does not receive any heat from the house. In order to conserve energy, Bosch designed the water inlet at the back of the dishwasher (where the cold water comes from). In the winter of last year, my water line frozen. Is it really something you would want to have a broken water line leaking into your With this 3 foot heat cable, you are set up in no time at all. Over the course of the last winter, there were about 4 1/2 weeks of sub zero temperatures. Installation was smooth. I used specially labeled heat tape and good electrical tape, and I wrapped my dishwasher's line with foiled fiberglass wrap to eliminate odors. Let's hope that it will continue to work for years to come!.

Exactly what I needed
5/5

In order to avoid freezing, we use this to keep our chicken waterer warm. Along the pvc waterer, we taped in straight lines and wrapped the pipes with fiberglass insulation of the same brand. Even with subfreezing temperatures this winter, there has been no ice formation. Power is given to it automatically by a light indicator that automatically turns on and off when it receives Take note of the following A great buy for those who deal with duct tape. Attachment supplies are not included, but duct tape works.

I was unable to make it Heating kit purchased in November 2020 was defective
3/5

During what will be a cold winter, it was installed. In order to remodel the garage, the item was needed to replace a 25+ year old wire heater (the same brand was still functional). This was the first time we had cold weather enough to freeze pipes in the early part of 2021. Upon checking the pipe I found that the wire was not working and the pipe was frozen. Thankfully it was just a short-lived occurrence, and with a space heater I was able to fix it within a couple minutes. Even though this item was not working, I would still buy it again since it was a good product. I had two other items similar to this, and they also worked well.

This is a great product
5/5

This system kept my water lines from freezing while it was supposed to do, how cool is There is one thing I wish the company would do better Make hose sizes in even numbers that will match the lengths. This still worked as a water hose for my RV and I found it to be a much more economical option than buying heated hoses for RVs.
