Questions & Answers

What is the approximate weight of this saw?

It weighs 13 pounds on a digital scale. With oil, cord, and the Diablo 24 tooth blade, the weight is only 03 lbs.

What is their manufacturing location?

Even Makita tools are no longer made in Japan, as everything is made in China. Quality tools CAN be made in China due to modern machinery and low labor costs. In the 1950s, "made in Japan" meant low quality, but it has since come to mean the opposite, and they, like Europe and the United States, must now outsource to China. Get used to the fact that we live in a global economy. Oh, and the definition of mass production is the production of a large number of copies in a short period of time, regardless of the country of origin.

According to a user review, this saw has a three-year warranty. Power connector with three prongs that twist together. Is it accurate to say so? There's no other mention of this anywhere. ?

To the OP, I think it's a great idea, but don't try it on a jobsite where an OSHA inspection might occur. NRTL certification is no longer valid unless you are a qualified repairer. Fines for willful violations are currently around $135,000 in the United States. 00 range. br>br>I'm considering purchasing one of these and will definitely use your suggestion. My current circular saw is equipped with a 10-foot replacement cord, which is frequently insufficient.

When you first start using it, is there a lot of kickback?

If the blade is not engaged when you pull the trigger, there should be no "kickback." The saw has a lot of torque, so it jerks a little when you use it. Your best ally will be good technique. When you pull the trigger, make sure the saw is on a firm surface and the blade isn't in contact with anything.

It took me 40 years to realize this was the best saw ever made
5/5

I'd never seen anyone use a worm drive circular saw when I was growing up in Massachusetts on the east coast. Everyone was armed with a sidewinder. Although I enjoyed carpentry, this was one of the few tools that didn't feel right in my hands. I learned to wrestle down kickbacks and fight binds on angled cuts using a sidewinder, as even minor handle corrections resulted in huge changes in the cut line, and I learned to wrestle down kickbacks and fight binds on angled cuts using a sidewinder. I understand that if a sidewinder is used correctly, it will cut fine, but I will tell you that due to their ergonomics, they are a difficult tool to use correctly. The weight of the motor is off-center, and the handle is positioned so that you are pushing down into the work rather than through it. Yes, they work, and I've been making them work for a long time, but it hasn't been an ideal experience. br>br>When I was 40 years old, I read Larry Haun's book and began watching The Essential Craftsman on YouTube. Both of these men used a Skilsaw worm drive saw, and Larry Haun is a legend in the carpentry world (check out his videos on YouTube). I made the decision to try one. I could tell right away after unboxing the saw that it was serious about its work; it has heft and a rugged feel to it. I was completely blown away the first time I propped a 2x4 up on my boot and cut it with the saw plate parallel to the end of the board. The saw's weight combined with gravity literally carried it right through the board like a hot knife through butter. I figured it was a fluke, so I grabbed a 2x8 and tried it again; once again, the saw just carried itself right through the lumber, as if it were glued to the line. You'll quickly discover that if you let it and gravity help, this saw will do the majority of the work for you. This saw's torque is unrivaled; it can rip through wet 2x lumber all day long. The handle is positioned behind the saw, giving you excellent accuracy as you push forward, and the long length reduces the severity of corrections. As a result, the cut will be more precise. br>br>For 40 years, I've felt like a fool for not realizing how much of a difference a worm drive saw makes over a sidewinder. My only regret is that I did not try one earlier. Thank you, Larry Haun and Scott Wadsworth (aka The Essential Craftsman), for demonstrating a better way to do things.

Weekend warriors have given their approval
5/5

I bought this saw after being inspired by The Essential Craftsman's YouTube channel, and it has served me well for weekend warrior projects. A good video on how to use this saw can be found on his channel.

There is no oil in the gear housing when the saw is shipped! This is an excellent saw, but bear in mind the following: The gear housing on the last two saws I bought came without any gear oil
3/5

Gear oil is required to lubricate the worm gear, and the oil level indicator is printed on the side of the housing. I didn't realize I had a problem with the saw until I had been using it for a while. Ugh! The second saw I bought last month also didn't have any gear oil in it! Nothing came out of the saw when I turned it upside down with the cap off! Although these are made in China, they appear to be of good quality. However, before you use the oil, make sure it's in good condition.

Nice Saw! I've had a wormdrive saw (the same one) for probably 35 years and have always enjoyed the power transfer that a wormdrive provides; however, as you can probably tell, I'm no longer that young stud who can lug that booger around
5/5

It's been relegated to my track as a result of track-related issues. Sawing is the only option. However, I needed another hand held saw and decided to give the "Mag" version a try. The term "Mag" now refers to the material used to make the saw, rather than a more powerful motor, as many people believe. This is simply a newer version of the saw I've had for years, but made of the lighter weight material "magnesium. " It has to be at least 4 1/2 to 5 pounds lighter than my old one. It's still heavier than most'sidewinders' when it comes to portable circular saws, but it has the same power, feel, and control as my old one. It will take time to see if it is as good as my old one, but if it lasts half as long as my old one, it will outlast me and be passed down to one of my grandsons.

Dewalt, on the other hand, has more power
3/5

My entire framing career has been spent with Skil. Still do. The version with a cord. I've been putting the new Dewalt 60v flex volt worm drive through its paces. I don't care for the body, but I put a lot of money into the line, buying three on sale and returning them all after using them on a house build. In my opinion, price has no bearing on performance. These, on the other hand, stink at rip cuts; I had some tight knotty boards, the kind that compress as you cut and make you want to kick back your saw. This saw was incapable of completing the task. Worse, the battery was completely depleted after only 10 minutes of ripping. I expected it to be better than the Dewalt S 110 battery at $250, but this is not the case. As of 2021, these skil batteries can't be used in any other tool. Invest in a corded version or a Dewalt 60-volt worm drive. Skil, we apologize for the inconvenience. I was cheering you on from the sidelines.

It is light in weight
5/5

I've been building houses since 1986 and have used a lot of Skilsaws in that time. I switched to a different brand the last time I bought new saws, and I'm so glad I did. I recently purchased two new SPT77WML-based SPT77WML-based SPT77WML-based SPT77 01 saws, and I must say, my guys and I absolutely adore them! These saws are super light, which is important at 61. When I first picked one up, I was struck by how light it was.

Solid, precise, and powerful are the three words that come to mind when thinking about this piece
5/5

This saw has a lot of torque and cuts very smoothly. I purchased this as a long-term tool for my hobbies and occasional framing projects. br>br>Get some oil and make sure your saw is clean and well-maintained. When you first start it, be careful because it will torque twist in your hand; maintain a firm grip and make sure your material is properly held in place. When it binds or throws material, this tool is powerful enough to seriously injure you if you let go of your grip. Experience and a strong sense of security will help a lot. Always put safety first. br>br>Also, while this Skilsaw appears to be light, it is actually quite heavy when compared to a standard circular saw. Something to keep in mind if you're unfamiliar with the area. br>br>I have a lot of fun with this saw. When compared to a cheap circular saw, my accuracy is much higher, and I know I can count on my tool to deliver clean, precise material. It won't make up for poor craftsmanship, but it will deliver if you know what you're doing and respect the tool. br>br>This saw is well worth the money; just make sure to maintain it properly and always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always, always,.
