Product Description

By entering your model number, you can make sure that this fits.
The 12-inch miter saw blade is protected by a stainless-steel miter detent plate with 14 positive stops, which ensures repeatable accuracy and worksite durability.
Crown molding up to 6-5/8" nested and base molding up to 6-1/2" vertically against fence are supported by the mitre saw's tall sliding fences.
The DEWALT miter saw's double-bevel design allows it to bevel from 0 to 48 degrees to the left and right, with positive stops at 0 and 22 degrees. 33 degrees at 5 degrees. 9 degrees and 45 degrees, respectively
Miter capacity for left and right miters ranges from 0 to 50 degrees.
Miter angles are quickly and accurately achieved with the cam lock miter handle with detent override.
For accuracy and visibility, the integrated CUTLINE; LED work light system provides an adjustment-free cut line indication.

Questions & Answers

This model is listed as 3800rpm on Dewalt's website, but it says 3500rpm on this site. Is this a newer model?

The motor casing on the saw I purchased two months ago reads 3800 rpm.

Is the LED the only distinction between the DW716 and the DW716 with XPS?

A light can be used with the Dewalt 716 Type 20. A handle, power supply, and led will set you back $75. The kit can be found at MM Tool Parts. It's all for the sake of the light.

Is it possible to use a metal cutting blade to cut steel tubing with it?

Good question, and depending on the tubing thickness, I don't see why not. When I was refinishing my basement, I used a Dewalt chop saw to cut aluminum studs, and it worked perfectly with a metal cutting blade. However, the difference was between a 10" and a 12" saw. My DW 716 Mite Saw had the same motors and amp rating. You could try pinging someone at DeWalt or searching their website; alternatively, you could ask someone at one of the Big Box Home Improvement stores.

Is there a vacuum dust port adapter for this dewalt dw716xps miter saw that anyone knows about? thanks?

Compatible adapters include the DWV9120, DWV9130, and DWV9150.

This is an incredible tool
5/5

To begin, let me state that I use this saw for precision work rather than rough carpentry. I'm more concerned with precise angles and tight miters than with raw power. Fortunately, I was able to get both with this saw. When you first take the saw out of the box, you can immediately tell it's of high quality. The saw was extremely well packaged, almost to the point where I believe it would have been fine if it had been thrown off the back of a UPS truck without slowing down. The saw's overall appearance and finish are excellent. The bright, clean, and smooth machined aluminum bed, as well as the large, easy-to-read angle dial at the bottom. Nothing wiggles or flexes, and the saw has a substantial weight to it that inspires confidence while not breaking your back. If you're working on a project that requires a lot of attention to detail. I would recommend cutting through some stock to remove the majority of the yellow from the blade that will smear on your first cuts; this is a minor inconvenience that can be sanded away. While I initially dismissed the XPS system as a gimmick (the XPS was cheaper than the standard model at the time of purchase), I was pleasantly surprised. This system is extremely precise. To cast a defined shadow, you'll need to get the blade close to the object you're cutting, but you'd be doing that anyway for precision marking. The motor has a powerful pull and easily cuts through hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and ash. This saw will suffice if all you need is a tough job site saw that can rip through 2x4s like they're not even there. This saw will work for you if you need to cut perfect 45s in your rosewood jewelry box. Basically, whatever your needs are, I can assure you that this saw will meet them.

Precision is reliant on premium blades with a thicker kerf
4/5

This saw was purchased to replace my Makita LS1013 10" compound slider, which had been in my possession for 12 years. I was never able to keep the fence and indexing mechanism aligned because of some inherent design flaws in the Makita. br>Whenever a project called for a true 90-degree end cut, I'd head over to my table saw and sled. br>When I was looking for a miter saw to replace my Makita, angular accuracy was one of my top priorities. All "sliders" were ruled out because they add another mechanical element to the equation that could affect precision. Also, I don't really need the extra cutting capacity that sliders provide. br>When I first got the DeWalt 716XPS, I did a few test cuts in various types and sizes of hardwood, as well as poplar and pine. br>Invariably, the angular accuracy would degrade on the larger pieces. The utility grade 60 tooth thin kerf blade that came with the saw was eventually identified as the source of the problem. Since then, I've upgraded to an Amana "premium" blade with a thicker kerf and 100 teeth, and the accuracy has vastly improved. br>In addition, the plastic table insert has been replaced with a zero clearance wood insert, and the thin and flimsy rubber "funnel" for capturing saw dust has been replaced with a larger and thicker rubber funnel that does not collapse when connected to a dust collector. In order to control and direct the flow downward and into my dust vacuum device, I've also added a PVC "elbow" to the exhaust end of the dust collection tube. br>My main complaint is that the table clamp is nearly useless. It's mechanically flimsy, and it's too far away from the blade to hold the work securely. To keep the workpiece from moving during the cut, the operator has no choice but to put his or her hand dangerously close to the blade. br>A "soft start" motor would be a nice addition as well.

The Dust Collection System is comprised of your lungs
3/5

I really wanted to like this unit, but the dust collection system is so poorly designed and ineffective that after only 2 hours of use, I was awake all night coughing. In comparison, I can use my old Rigid miter box for 8 hours without coughing or respiratory issues, even though I'm not asthmatic or allergic to dust. The problem is that the dust collector's centroid is 7 1/2 inches above where the cutting takes place at the base. As a result, sawdust never reaches that height, instead spraying against the blade tower's base and becoming airborne almost immediately. In comparison to my old Rigid saw, which would collect 3 or 4 large handfuls of dust in the dust collection bag, this unit only collected less than 3 spoonfuls. Nothing ever makes it into the bag, so it's always empty. I work on a lot of projects that require a lot of finishing touches. Trim work is done indoors, and aside from the health risks of inhaling dust all day, this unit's indoor cleanup is a major issue. This would be a great unit to use if you were doing rough carpentry in the middle of a job site. If you're working indoors (in a home or garage, for example), this is probably not the best option. I really wanted to keep this unit, but the dust collection system was so ineffective that I had no choice but to return it and replace it with another Rigid.

Projects with no limit
5/5

I've made some test cuts, checked the bevel, and other such things while only having it for a week and just getting it completely set up. For use with the saw, I also purchased the DEWALT DWX726 Rolling Miter Saw Stand. My setup was delayed by several days due to a missing part on the stand, but Dewalt and their service center provided excellent customer service. I had my doubts about the LED light. I believe it will be a valuable asset based on my experience. I'm looking forward to the upcoming projects.
