The price is worth it. As soon as I started making knives, I bought one for myself. The price was surprisingly low for what I received. It has been amazing that I have been able to profile my knives continuously for the last few years with no problems. It seems the hardware and table are insufficient so you will want to fix that. It didn't work with vice grips, so I replaced the tracking knob. Buying a second one to run without a table and with a different grit was my next step.
The sander was good, but its plate was bent and not stable at all. I had to make a plate that was much larger and smoother for it. It can also be used to shape and grind knives quite well, aside from that.
It took only a few minutes to loosen a single bolt on the back side and adjust the tightening mechanism backward to get the rest of the pieces to work. Now that I retightened the bolt on the machine, it is a remarkable machine. Don't buy it for what it's currently meant to be, buy it for what it could easily become.
It's great to have this little monster around. Now I consider it one of my favorite tools. A perfect edge will be achieved on any blade with this product. Additionally, I have used it in my knives and my Katanas. I'm awaiting the leather strop to hone those perfect edges. I do not have to change the belt all that often since I can buy it on line nowadays. This is a great.
My original purchase was for sharpening, but I've found that this item is useful for many other things now as well. As an example, it is useful when polishing marine stainless fittings with 1000 grit sandpaper. There is a way to adjust belt tension, which can allow for a bit of variance in belt length, but if you wear a belt that is significantly too long or too short, there's no way to adjust it. The price is still good, and it's still a great product.
If any adjustments are needed, they will be minor. It can be used right out of the package. I had no issues setting up the belt, it tracked right onto the platen. I liked everything about this table, except for one problem the table went to 90 degrees quite easily, but it did not line up with the belt too well side to side. There was no problem with the angle of the front to the back.
It was really surprising to me that a tool this good for so little cost was so heavy and well built. Over the years, I have purchased hundreds of things from Amazon, but I have never received a box so well padded, protected, and In addition to these, I have plans for other projects. As a whole, I am satisfied with this product, and I would purchase it again without a doubt.
