Purchasing a demo hammer similar to this is the best choice if you have hard soil and occasional slabs to break up. As soon as you realize how smart you were, you will be glad you made that purchase. In terms of this specific unit, I can compare it to some larger rental units and find it to be as good or even better, but lighter and more compact, two key advantages. The hard pan soil I work in can cut through like butter, and I can smash a slab of 8" with ease.
