Questions & Answers

Is this something that can be used with trailer screws?

Thanks, as long as the screw specifies Double Square 2, it should work.

I have a haulmark trailer that is enclosed. Until I needed one, I'd never heard of an eight-point torx bit. How do I know which size bit I require (1,2,3)?

Two Double Squares are required. (There are several of them.) I know it makes no sense because the trialer screws appear to be torx - However, they are assembled with a "Double Square Bit"br>On my 1995 Haulmark 20 foot, I replaced all 500 screws. Many of them were rusted, and a local trailer repair shop refused to work on them. Soooo. I go to work after purchasing the screws on Ebay and the Bits on Amazon. If they resist your coming out, here's how you handle it: br>Using a deep socket bit, tap the area around the screwhead several times. After that, use a center punch to strike the center. (small enough to avoid damaging the bit's biting edges.) WD-40 is sprayed on. Allow to sit for at least 40 minutes and up to 24 hours. Use a battery-powered impact driver, such as a small Makita, to install the bits. If they don't respond, put the bit in a screwdriver that accepts bits and lean into it while trying to turn it. Depending on the age of the trailer and how long it has been exposed to the elements, you may need to proceed to the third step. Heat the head with a propane torch (the paint may fade, but you can fix it). Re-examine the methods described above. br>If they still won't come out or you've stripped the head, move on to step four: Cut a channel for a standard large screwdriver bit across the head of a 4 inch grinder with a thin diamond blade. Put that flat bit in your impact driver and lean into it as you hit the trigger in short bursts. With enough heat and patience, they'll all turn and emerge. br>I hope this information is useful.
I

Are these compatible with spax screws?

I don't think so. These were required to remove screws from a Haulmark trailer. The screws are rated as a six out of ten. I couldn't find the bits anywhere else unless I ordered them specifically. I hope this information is helpful.

Trailer screws that aren't what they appear to be? Finally, your turn has arrived! ***I paid the asking price plus tax for this product, as I always do
5/5

Furthermore, I have no ties to anyone who may have profited financially from my actions. **
br>These do fit those crazy 8-inch heels. **
br>I also have no affiliation with anyone associated with a competing product in any way. "Torx-" on one side, "Torx-" on the other. Many enclosed trailers have "looking" screws. Has anyone else noticed that there appears to be a world-wide problem? Is there a widespread conspiracy to keep the public in the dark about these screws and the proper bit for dealing with them? This was the culmination of three weeks of excruciatingly difficult research, trial, and error, as well as era online purchases. You'll get a SQUARE bit from everyone for some reason. I even went to my trailer's manufacturer, who sent me a SQUARE bit - There is no cost. The right-size square bits will fit, but they will only bite on half of the screw interface and will strip almost any other screw you try to use them on. br>br>Without any assistance from the trailer industry, I have already completed all of the necessary research. Get these VEGA Double Square 8-Pack VEGA Double Square 8-Pack VEGA Double Square 8- sided bits, and call it a day. They bite on all eight sides of the screw and complete the task without stripping it. I'm not sure why trailer manufacturers don't use a more common screw or, at the very least, include two of these bits with each trailer. Also, PLEASE. Please spread the word so that no one else has to go through what I went through to figure this out.

"You have every tool that has ever been invented," my wife says
5/5

" Me: "I don't have any," says the narrator. At least, that's what my wife claims I have: "every tool known to man. " That was before I discovered that a Torx bit won't fit the screw heads on an enclosed trailer or an RV (both of which were designed by the devil). The tool, however, is VEGA has done their part to save us by making angels. br>br>I recently purchased an enclosed trailer and was eager to put it to use. I planned to remove some trim and wood panels, as well as paint some of the walls. About 50 of these screws had to be removed. "I've got everything ever made, so I'm good," I reason as I pull out my box of 300 (or so) bits. " Nope. There were no 8-point bits in any of the bits. "I'm going to find this bit," I think as I visit Menards, Home Depot, and Lowes. " You're not one of them. " Nobody has any of these nonsense bits. So now I can take those screws out. br>br> Above all, I can tell my wife, "I didn't have every bit and tool ever made. " Consider the additional tools I'll require (but don't currently possess). Vega Dbl Sq
4/5

, Vega Dbl Sq. , Vega Db 2" Bits. I had to take some flashing off of a 20' Roadmaster Trailer that used these Dbls. Sq. Bits. Three were included in the package, and two of them were broken. One is done by hand, one is done with a straight, clutch-type drill motor, and one is done with an impact driver. They fit perfectly in the screws, but any real torque applied to remove them shattered the tip. The heads were ground off and the holes were drilled out in the end. Bah- hum- bug. So, what is the significance of the four-star rating? If these are the screws you want to use, I figure they'll work well for a new project because these tips are extremely difficult to come by in local stores.

Screwdriver with eight points
5/5

If you have an 8-point head screw, these are the "meow" tools to use because a torx screwdriver will not work. A cargo trailer has its own screw for whatever reason, and you won't find one of these double square bits at your neighborhood hardware store. It's a little pricey, but I might be able to sell one and recoup some funds!.

Better than 2 square by a factor of two
5/5

These performed exactly as expected. The fact that the screws on my Haulmark Enclosed Trailer were not Torx was a pleasant surprise. I've heard that a 2 square bit can be used on these, but this one has twice the load bearing surface area, so it'll strip half as easily. I'm not sure I'll ever use this bit again because it took me 45 years to discover these screws for the first time, but when you need one, there's no other option.

Excellent, but prone to rust
4/5

Excellent drivers for double-decker buses. trailer screws that are square. Well- made and of high quality They are, however, rusting quickly in the (usually) slow-rusting environment. Utah's alpine desert has a rusty environment. That's why I only gave it four stars rather than five. Other drivers, even after years of use, have never rusted in my experience. To prevent this, I'll coat them in oil.

Screws for the trailer It is based on an 8-point scale
5/5

On enclosed trailers, sided screws are used. A 2 square bit can also be used, but this bit grabs the material better. br>It appears to be of good quality.

They are successful
5/5

I thought they were a little pricey for three bits, but given that they are a specialty item, I suppose it's understandable. They are effective. They fit into and out of my cordless impact driver just fine, and when you properly apply them to the screws and press the button, the screws either come out or go in. That's what I believe is supposed to happen, or at least what I've been told.
