Questions & Answers

Would it be able to handle tough glues like Barge Contact Cement?

Neither a trowel nor a roller are used in conjunction with contact cement in my house. The laminates in this container are too thick to remain stable in Barges, which I have used in the past for laminates (GREAT STUFF). The glue I use in mine is Titebond wood glue in two varieties and I use small acid brushes along There has never been a problem with dry out One of our units is twelve years old and continues to operate The views expressed here are my own. You will need one of these Big Horn glue units if you do not yet have one You should definitely spend the money on them. This should be of some assistance.

Glue? What is the proper way to do that?

To prepare the glue, pour it into the pot opening, along with thinning solution. See the photo for an example of where the brush rests. Seeing the cone, it wraps around the opening and over the brush handle, protecting it from drying out and keeping the glue inside the pot and on the bristles from fusing. By adding the thickener to a pot, placing the lid over the opening, and shaking the pot to dissolve it, the thickener can be dissolved. Glue cannot attach to the plastic permanently on the pot due to its plastic material. The glue can easily be removed by pulling it off or scraping it off. The pot can be put on the back of the rounded front opening when not in use, which minimizes the surface area of the glue compared to when it is on the bottom, and thus delays the evaporation of the glue and subsequent thickening of it. It only takes a bit of thinning agent to bring the glue back to its desired viscosity after it has slowly thickened. Although I have used other glue pots in the past, I prefer this style as it is efficient and more effective.

This is a snapshot of the Big Horn 19040-30 Are we able to use the One Ounce Plastic Glue Container with Brush with an adhesive that uses solvents? I appreciate your help. ?

Elmers White glue is the only glue I have used on it, but it has been working great so far. A heavy plastic is used for its construction. It has never been used with a solvent.

My other ones look just as good as this one
5/5

I had the expensive brand which I have had multiples of in the past, so I wanted nothing to compete with the cheaper one. All of them seem the same to me. In my experience making saddles, I've used a number of these products. Their love for me is unconditional. In other reviews, I've read that they tended to leak at the seams. If I had to guess, I would say they kept their glue pot flat all the time, instead of kicking it up on end once it wasn't in use (like when it was filled). It's best to keep them standing on end, so the fumes and pressure which create pressure is released Since glue does not have anywhere to go, there is no need to push it out the seams. The glue pot should be tipped back down when using it, but should always be positioned upright if it will not be used for a prolonged period. A buddy of mine once had even a good one blow out and waste all the glue in a container several times. You'll have to pay! In addition, the puddle of glue dried on his bench by the time the weekend had ended. Using the pot in which he kicks up when it is not in use has solved the problem. My sincere hope is that helped. If this is the issue with the product, we'll know when it happens. I will keep you updated if I remember.

This would have been a good idea having lost my entire product
3/5

Since so many of the pros use similar designs, I figured I should get one too. The toothpicks and cotton swabs I used to apply the glue were getting old. Put all of my adhesive in a jar Two bottles) The first few times I worked with it, I assumed it was fine. The fact is. My adhesive sat on the shelf for a while, so I didn't use it. The glue on my project had all dried solid. I grabbed it for a project and all of my glue was hard and dry. It appears that the pressure built up and pushed the lid off just enough to let the pressure out, but then also enough to allow the lid to stay open for a while The shape of the packaging prevents even me from scraping out the dried glue. However, I will no longer be using this container since I bought new glue. A threaded top on the lid and not a push-on top would be the only way to make this work. The glue container I use is old, so I need to buy a new one.

I like the Big Horn glue pot because it's an inexpensive glue pot
4/5

I like the Big Horn glue pot because it's relatively inexpensive and does the job. You can use it for a low cost and it's However, I would like to give you one warning Store the glue pot in an upright position with the dipping well positioned over the storage reservoir after you fill it with glue. Due to the glue evaporating from the pot when it is sitting in its normal use position, the vapors build up inside the closed chamber of the reservoir, which can cause a crack in the However, the hardening, seeping glue seals the cracks in the furniture.

The bottom seam on our apartment failed, so we lost our deposit
3/5

During my first six months with this desk, one of the bottom seals failed and about 16 ounces of glue poured all over the side of my desk and onto On a typical day, the glue pot sits on my workbench, but I was working on a smaller part about a month ago and never re-nailed it to my workbench. I was glad because I had some larger leather projects on the bench at the time that would have also been ruined by the leak, but it's not like you can just pick the contact cement off Maybe it's better that we just say goodbye to the apartment deposit. Make sure you get a good metal glue pot instead of a cheap one.

I was hooked on this glue reservoir after seeing it used on a leather working YouTube video
3/5

I'm sure I would have loved to own one as well but sadly it's falling apart. I had no problems using it. It was easy to use and I was able to quickly get to the glue. It's unfortunate that just a few months after adding glue, there are now cracks along the base of the container, allowing the glue inside to harden and cure. Cracks in the glue reservoir have not been caused by a drop or exposure to extreme temperatures, they were not caused by being dropped or exposed to extreme conditions.

It is one of the best things I've ever seen
3/5

The purpose of wasting money is to waste Is brilliantly ripped apart. This will make you the proud owner of $50 wasted dollars just buy it and fill it with glue and watch it fall apart. What? It I just put $30 worth of glue in it so the seams would open and the glue would dry out naturally. My fingers are crossed that with some time, it will split completely open, so I can scrape out the glue and 'possibly' salvage it with some thinner and another container, but I am not hopeful.

A great tool that keeps the glue fresh
5/5

It holds a quart of glue, but you may want to change the bristles of the 1" brush once the brush cover is placed on it, as they tend to bend out of shape. Note that over a period of time, barge cement glue tends to thicken in glue pots. Glue thinner can be used to thin the is not something to do with the glue pot itself it is all to do with the way the glue is. Apart from that, it is a great deal at this price.

It has leaked! It is my normal practice to buy the German made kettle
3/5

Yet I was considering the Chinese model, which is less expensive. The patch worked well for about a month before it started leaking at the seam last night. My bench became a real mess after I glued a piece of wood to it. After I spent my money, I should have expected to get my money's worth.
