The most common mistake when setting hinges is to over-tighten them An out of center screw messes up the whole thing
4/5

The most common mistake when setting hinges is to over-tighten them Everything becomes messed up when you use a centered screw. In summary, these bits, popularly known by a competitor's trade name "Vixbits," would not work well on a production line, but for the handyman or craftsman they would be desirable. It seems unlikely to me that I will need to sharpen or replace them more than once a decade, since my need for them is only occasional. It was a great experience and I couldn't be happier This seller would be my first choice again (especially when it comes to the product).

This is a near perfect tool for drilling
5/5

It can center the drill with no problem, but if it is not exactly perpendicular the bit has a slight walk to it, so it is not Fixes for two problems have been found. Use a fast drill speed to drill the pilot hole. Be careful to drill perpendicularly after drilling the pilot hole. Use a bit with a point to eliminate the walk as a third fix. It is unlikely that this will happen, given the low price. It seems more accurate and easier than before to drill three holes in a door. I'm doing 30 doors. Take action and buy.

The show is not ready for primetime at all
3/5

In spite of the fact that they look nice, when you put them to use it becomes apparent that they clog up badly with wood, and almost cannot be cleaned out without partially disassembling them multiple times. It is also very difficult to slide the sleeves back to clean the cuts or at least make sure you are aware of the depth of cut as well because they are not smooth in the barrels. There is no way I can keep using these, I will have to buy another set.

It is easy and accurate to do the job
5/5

It wasn't clear to me what I was capable of It wasn't until I came across a web page showing how to use centering drill bits that I realized they existed. The bit makes drilling pilot holes for hinge screws much easier, and the bits are not only reasonably priced, but also do the job well.

The drill bits will definitely make it easier to drill the pilot hole precisely in the center
4/5

My home will be a DIY area and I don't want to spend too much on original Vix components. These are probably used every couple months for that reason, and they are very useful. The price is also very affordable, but the quality is definitely not high. If you are looking for something like that, you should expect to pay at least three times the price of these. However, if you are a DIYer occasionally and if they are taken care of, these will last you a long time. Using these will definitely make it easier for you to drill a pilot hole exactly in the middle of a hinge or otherwise.

I don't like how this is A couple of months after I purchased them, I applied them to latches on table leaves
3/5

For the smaller one, I used it. When it wobbled, the sheave would stick and not come down. Drilling in oak wood also caused the bit to twist off. Just putting it into a drill and rotating it without looking at it yields an inch or two of straightness. The only real advantage over eyeballing with a normal bit is that it is faster.

The self Jamming on the center of Spring
3/5

Four cabinet doors are to be installed with these bits. It was amazing how well these bits worked when I installed the first two doors. That's why it's my favorite tool, I told my wife. I discovered in the process of drilling the holes for the third door that the internal spring that moves the self-closing mechanism had broken A jamming issue occurred with the centering insert. The mechanism sounded clogged to me, and I thought maybe sawdust was to blame. I tried spraying WD 40 but it failed to work. On my way to the fourth door, the insert was completely jammed and I could not operate it. Do not know if that is an inherent problem in the design of the bit or a problem with this particular bit.

This is garbage
3/5

Since the metal is too soft with a cheap chrome surfacing, the plunge bit is not able to move back fully into its housing because it is groved into the housing and cannot contract back out again. The problem has not been resolved following disassembly and cleaning. There is no point in spending money on this product, because it is of inferior quality. I will dispose of them in the trash.
