Questions & Answers

Is the tool able to sharpen drill bits of what size?

My clamp allowed me to extend 15/16 inches, which was the most I was able to do with it. Perhaps if you modified the clamp a little you would be able to do it. Try the 1 inch size to see if it

The Milwaukee Shockwave is effective on drill bits with a hex attachment, is this system?

If the drill is not the same diameter all the way along, it is probably not an option. There will be a slight change in angle after that. As long as the difference is not too much, the end result will be okay. There are no bits of those that I have.

Do you think this is an 825 made in the USA or a copy made in China?

I remember it was made by General, can't recall where I got it. Not as good as the one I had 20 years ago, but it works.

This product can be used with a belt sander, right?

Yes, of course. Mounting it all comes down to how you do Sharpening steel bits will be achieved using a sanding belt.

She is a better worker than I am! The tool appears to come in a variety of forms
4/5

My opinion of General is that it is a good value for the price. It is manufactured in the United States. I was very pleased with the fit and finish and the quality of the materials.

Instructions are clear on how to set up and operate. In general, if you read the instructions and set up and use the jig according to the directions, the results will be a lot better than what can be achieved by sharpening freehand. If you typically drill in wood, sharpening by hand will do the trick. It is extremely important that both cutting edges are precisely the same length and the relief angle is exactly the same when you drill holes in metal for precise machine work. To sharpen bits 1/4" and 1/2" I have done so It has produced a finish close to what is expected from a factory grind with 3-4 inches. With reduced oversized holes and fewer trips to the grinder for adjustments, the grinder can be used more efficiently.

An error occurred while processing the instruction
5/5

I have owned two or more of these tools in the past and both have worked beautifully. Although the instruction sheet appears to be a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, it is incomprehensible. Previously, I wouldn't have been able to install this correctly because I didn't have this information. When you fail to install it correctly, you will break more bits than you will If you want a good copy of the instructions, you can probably get one fairly easily.

This is a super product
5/5

Here are some of the bad things It would be helpful if the instructions were better. YouTube and other sources help to guide you on a path to improving your drill bit skills. Here is the good part The sharpening process with this tool is so simple that you can never have a dull bit again, but please be careful when using it. If you use a smaller bit size, it becomes harder to create a good outcome. One final thought - I believe it's time to replace those little guys. Start with a 60 or 80 grit grinding wheel and then switch to a 150 grit for a super fine cutting edge for terribly out of whack bits.

Grinding that is not accurate due to poor quality
3/5

There are two general numbers This drill bit grinding attachment has similar features to the old Craftsman 9- there Though it is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of fit and finish, it falls far short. It is possible to learn how to use this tool by watching the many videos on Youtube. To place the drill bit in the trough on the adjustable slide bracket, turn the screw counterclockwise. As the feed screws advance the bit using the feed nut and Locknut, the back of the bit rests against the feed screw assembly. Despite the sloping feed screw on this unit, the front hole on the adjustable slide bracket is oversize. The front hole may need to be threaded and work in conjunction with the nut and lock to help deliver the bit to the cutting surface with the required.

Results that exceeded our expectations
4/5

As a home-owner, I owned the Craftsman version of this model 30 years ago, but I never got it to work. The Drill Doctor 750x I bought about 10 years ago works the same way. It was easier to purchase new parts when I worked, so I could purchase them easily. Since I am now retired, I decided to see what I have been doing wrong all these Having watched every video you ever posted, I couldn't help but notice - An old YouTube video dating back to 10 years ago. figured out how to make this work after I figured out how to do it. All but one were doing it wrong, which is why they didn't rave about their end product. The majority just claimed that it does a decent As I said, I will try and explain the proper way to do the job. The first step is to adjust the length of the bit to the end then tighten it. Placing your drill bit in the cradle in a way that it is horizontal in the center and vertical at the cutting edge gives you a perfect horizontal bit. Once that has been done, adjust the slide up so the bit will not turn during clamping. After that, unlock the bit length guide so that it extends to the bottom of the bit, and then The object should not be moved for any adjustments at this point. The bit will rotate when you do this, and you will lose the optimum angle and Moving the base closer to the grinding wheel or farther away from it will be the method for all adjustments from now on. The instructions do not contain any of this information. In most you tube videos there is a video showing sharpened bits being tested It will be necessary to drill a pilot hole before they sharpen. You will never see anyone on youtube sharpening small bits 3/32 or 1/8," most people only go down to 1/4" (for example). Through use of my method, I have been able to sharpen 1/4" bits that will stall a 20v battery hand drill. A few other things, if the center of the bit is not vertical, it will always walk on the metal no matter what. I have cut 118 degrees and 135 degrees. I thought we would start with a tool review, since we received junk thumb screws. Every one of them was replaced after I bought replacements from Ace hardware in specialty With larger diameter heads, you can easily tighten the screws and have a better grip in general. This new Craftsman has hollow bases, whereas my old Craftsman had solid ones. All in all, you are going to be impressed with this sharpener, with the modifications. There is a 6" Craftsman bench grinder that is variable speed and can go from 2000 to 3500 rpm. For reduced heat and to prevent cutting bits from losing hardness, all bits are sharpened at 2000 rpms. The perfect wheel for a 120 grit surface is the 360 grit wheel. The bottom line is that you want to keep the bit center straight across left-to-right and keep the cutting edge straight up-and-down. You should also move the base in and out, rather than the bit adjustment itself. It should only take a few minutes for you to get a perfect piece.

As the first one I received, it was lacking both the adjustable bracket as well as A replacement was sent to me within a few days of my request

Kohls and all other non-Kohls stores are not returning the incomplete one back, so I haven't sent it back yet As a result of Covid-related problems, essential businesses have closed A new influenza outbreak has begun in 2019. The instructions are a bit confusing and require some work to set The first time around I tried it on the face of my 8" grinder, but There are several problems with setting up on the face You will grind the heel too much if you raise it too high. In order to avoid grinding the point too much, you should not set your point too low. You will be constantly trying to adjust the height to ensure that you are grinding the drill bits exactly at the center of the wheel as you grind different sizes of drill bits. My next attempt was to mount this tool to the outside of an 8" grinding wheel and I got pretty Lastly, you should grind very small amounts so as not to put a lot of pressure on the grinding wheel. If you do this, then you will keep the drill bit temperature low so no changes to the temper take place. There have been no noticeable grooves on the side of my wheel, and the drill bits I'm getting are very sharp. In addition to wearing a face shield and protective eye glasses, wearing a face shield is a good idea!.

Once you figure out how it works you will find it is an excellent product
5/5

I use it to sharpen my larger bits (3/8 to 1 1/2 inches) and it works well once you figure out how it works. The only thing I have found that allows me to sharpen my larger bits to my own specifications is this tool.
