Suddenly, I was worried when purchasing this kit that the tools would be substandard and will become easily dull. This is not true! Tools with a good edge that hold an edge well and work A starter kit like this is perfect for those who want to get into carving but only want basic tools.

Longevity is not an issue when it comes to sharpening blades

In addition, the blades do not stay sharp very long, and the handles are awkward for someone with Once they have been taken off a couple of times, the tip protectors don't stay on. My experience with this set has been that the best way to carve with it is to soak the wood in rubbing alcohol diluted with water and spray the mixture on it to soften the wood so that the knife can be carved effectively.

Your money would be better spent on American products

Each of the blades I received had a nick in it. Not as sharp as it should have been. However, as long as you spend four hours sharpening out the nicks and stropping them afterwards, these blades seem to work OK. Invest your money in a product made in the United States.

I'd say that's a decent set for under twenty dollars. Both the chipping knife and the hook blade were in working order, and have remained sharp for some time. There was something wrong with the cut edge of the regular carving blade, we actually found It's not bad for the price to get two out of three.
