Drill blank that is super accurate. The rod is a 1/2" precision steel rod, as promised. I measured it using two calipers and a micrometer and I would say that mine is accurate. I measured it over its entire length and within the limits of my instruments, exactly that distance. (The Starrett USA-made one caliper is rated only to within 10% of what Starrett worldwide offers. I recommend that you use "001", it is A precision rod is what it is, short answer. What it promises is what it is.
My digital micrometer was used several times to check the diameter of drill rods at three different locations. It found each measurement. The below numbers represent a 5-digit number. The below numbers represent a 5-digit number. Every time, even after rotating it 180*, I get the model 5001 in all three spots. The square edge was very precise and exactly what I needed for the runout test on my mill spindle and my 4 jaw lathe chuck.
Then and now The tool was extremely useful for checking the runout of my drill press.
This is perfect for that purpose.
I am very pleased with this product.
My drill press was squared up with the aid of this precision rod.
