Questions & Answers

Is it possible to remove the hexagon blade (shaft) from the handle? Is it possible to retract it into the handle and use it at a reduced length? Thanks?

There is no removable extension in this version. You're looking at the entire driver, and it's not going to get any shorter. Although I believe Wera makes a ratcheting unit with a removable shaft, this is not it.

How strong is the torque? What are the limits of the bits and ratchet?

For heavy-duty applications, I would avoid using any ratcheting screwdriver. Neither my Snap-on nor my Snap-on on ones. I'd much rather use a standard screwdriver — or, better yet, a 3/8" ratchet handle with socket screwdriver bits — for anything that requires a lot of torque. In any case, the Wera Kraftform Kompact Ratcheting Screwdriver is best suited for light to medium-duty applications. duty use.

Is it using industry-standard bits or proprietary ones?

Bits with a 1/4" drive fit into the bit holder. A few 25mm (1") long bits can be stored in the handle.

Wera tools are made in the United States or in China. ?

Neither. Wera Tools is a company based in Germany that manufactures tools. The majority of their products are made in the Czech Republic, which is just across the border from Germany.

As one would expect from Wera, this is an excellent tool
5/5

The design is well-thought-out, and it has a sturdy feel to it. The handle has a larger diameter than a standard Wera driver, but it's still manageable to hold. It has a less pleasant feel to it than the more slender handles, but it provides more torque due to its larger overall diameter. In the year that I've owned it, the back push button has never unintentionally opened the handle on me, but it's simple to push and open to get to the bits stored inside. To release the closure inside the handle, push the button in about 1/8" (3mm), and it has stiff spring tension to pop it open quickly. 6 1" (25mm) insert bits made from standard 1/4" (6. 35mm) insert bits are retained in the bit storage. stock (3mm) The metal ring selector for lock, left ratchet, and right ratchet is marked with a small ridge that acts as a pointer to the actions marked on the plastic handle with 'R' for turning right and ratcheting left, 'o' in the center for locking the driver in both directions, and an 'L' for turning left and ratcheting to the right. It functions in the opposite direction as my Snap-on. I have to twist the selector to turn for driving when ratcheting the driver in the direction I want it to go. To use this driver, twist the selector to the left to choose 'R' for drive and to the right to choose 'L' for loosen action. When selecting different positions, it has a solid locking feel to it, and I haven't accidentally bumped it out of position in the year I've had it. Flat sides on a hexagonal trim edge on the selection ring provide anti-slip protection. The six-sided shaft is a good surface to be able to spin in the ratchet direction easily with my index finger and thumb for quick low torque removal or driving of fasteners, and it works well and looks nice. I don't miss having a round knurled shaft for this purpose, and I believe the hexagonal surface gives me a little more torque. The stainless steel magnetic bit holder is friction fit at the tip of the shaft, which is hexagonal tool stock. The bit holder isn't perfectly aligned with the shaft and has a slight wobble, which I only noticed when checking for runout. There are approximately. There is a 5mm runout. Wera had to replace the first one I bought because the stainless steel bit holder pressed onto the end of the shaft had a lot of runout. The bits fit perfectly in the magnetic insert bit holder with a tight tolerance. The bit holder's strong magnet holds insert bits in place nicely, and the magnet is powerful enough to pick up small ferrous objects like 3"(75mm) screws on the end of an inserted bit. I think it's a good thing that the bit holder doesn't have a retention ring. Although the magnet is very strong and holds bits securely without a retention ring, bits are easy to insert and remove from the holder. The ratchet mechanism has a fine precision ratchet that locks securely and feels solid and refined. The handle's softer green molding is stiffer than most of my other Wera drivers, but it still provides a comfortable grip. I hope you've found this review to be informative.

Amazing screwdriver, but there's a major flaw
3/5

I've been using this screwdriver at work for years and it's been fantastic. It's incredibly convenient to use as a daily screwdriver, and it's easily the best driver I've ever used. One major flaw has caused me to deduct two stars from what is otherwise my favorite screwdriver of all time. After a few months of use, the magnetic inside the shaft is easily removed. I'm not sure how they keep it in the shaft, but it doesn't seem to work. I purchased two of these drivers, and both had the same problem with the magnetic shaft falling out. The problem can be solved by using an industrial grade solvent to hold it in place, but this is something I shouldn't have to do myself, and it's also quite inconvenient.

Snap- on vs
5/5

Between this and the Snap-on, there's a lot going on. In the same way that a Lexus isn't a Ferrari, one isn't even close. The Lexus is the Wera in this situation. It flawlessly fulfills all of your requirements. It's truly amazing. Every detail has been meticulously considered. The Snap- Any mortal has never produced or experienced a ratcheting action like this. It's truly enchanting. The Wera continues to be the superior instrument. All of the grips, bit storage, and bit holding tips have been improved. The Snap-It-It-It-It-It-I The Wera comes close to being perfect, and it outperforms it in every way.

In my opinion, it does not measure up to Wera's level of craftsmanship
3/5

I'd like to start by saying that I've been gathering Wera brand tools, and while I recommend the brand, I don't recommend this specific tool. br>br>I've used ratcheting screwdrivers before, and this wasn't the best one I've ever used. The bit housing is clever, but the location of the housing in the handle causes a lot of flex when tightening screws. I've never pressed the housing button by accident before. br>br>Though the ratcheting has a high "resolution," the mechanism for selecting the direction is prone to twisting. I'll be torquing away and then, all of a sudden, the mechanism will ratchet because I bumped it. br>br>The bits are of excellent quality. They have a strong bite and don't appear to be easy to strip. Personally, I wish I had chosen a screwdriver with a single bit and shank, and a separate handle. For some of the situations I encounter, the bulge where the bits attach to the shank is too large. Wiring in motor starters or VFDs where the screw is recessed and I can't get the bit down far enough to turn it is a pain for me. br>br>I'm 6'3" and have big hands, so this handle is a bit bulbous for me. I was in the situation described above the other day, so I switched to my Wera insulated screwdriver, which had a much more natural feel to it. Unless you're just doing basic home maintenance, I'd pass on this.

On the first day, the magnet fell out
3/5

I'm extremely disappointed! I had been looking forward to receiving this set for weeks, and the Magnet pulled out on the first day I received it. Only the larger adapter bits, which have a higher magnetic permeability than the screwdriver, were used to pull it out. There appears to have been no glue or fastening at all, upon closer inspection. br>Perhaps this is how it should be, but for my money, I'd rather not have to worry about double-checking my driver after every tenth of a cent. br>Everything else is perfect, but the Magnet falling out on the first day completely ruins the experience for me. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> Everything is fine now that I've glued the magnet back in place, but the driver bits are too soft. The larger of the included slot head bits twisted around without ever camming out the first time I used it.
