Questions & Answers
It includes the wooden insert as well as the systainer case.
7 layer plywood with a thickness of 5/16 or 8mm. The equipment they use in their photography is very expensive and difficult to come by. Perhaps you'd be better off making your own plywood inserts that are specifically tailored to your tool usage. I have all of the tools listed in their advertisement, with the exception of four or five. Amounting to well over a thousand dollars in total.
Selected User Reviews For Festool 497658 Systainer Tool Organizer, SYS 4
This organizer is made for a specific set of tools, as other reviews have stated. I even went out of my way to find and buy most of the tools it was designed for, thinking they'd make a good set for carrying to a job site, and tried it out a few times as a set. What a colossal financial blunder! The issues are as follows: (1) This is insufficient as a universal toolkit; (2) The organizer is extremely knowledgeable about this set of tools; (3) The organizer takes up a great deal of room. br>br>I had some success fitting other tools in by enlarging some of the holes, but I eventually removed the wooden organizer and used the box on its own. I wish I had ordered the simple systainer instead. br>br>Note: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "creative I have a number of systainers (over a dozen), some of which are simply general-purpose containers and others which contain power tools. The system appeals to me because of its adaptability and stackability. despite the prohibitive cost. br>br>Lesson learned: Perhaps you, like me, have admired photos of beautiful tool boxes, each with its own fitted holder and everything neatly organized, and wished you had such a place to store your tools. It doesn't seem possible. Anyone who works with tools has a constantly evolving (and generally growing) collection, with even the most-used favorite tools evolving over time; the concept of a neatly fitted place holder for each tool is incompatible with this reality.
I was really looking forward to using this system to organize my tools. When it first arrived, I thought it was really cool, until I tried to put my tools in it. br>br>While I believe it would work well if you had the exact tools Festool has organized in this tool organizer, I was unable to accommodate the tools I have or my working style. br>br>I'm going to get a new Sortainer for my supplies so I can make my own toolbox.
It would be great if there were more options for storing tools in the rack.
Regrettably, I was taken aback by this. br>It goes exactly as Festool wants it to, and nothing is missing. br>I'd like to have more personal freedom.
This came with an older Systainer box, which I purchased. My profession is that of a remodeling contractor. With the tools I keep in this box, I could almost do any type of repair work except specialty tool work. I am not exaggerating in the least. (trim, plumbing, electricity, drywall, etc. ) You must "think outside the box" in order to organize "your"tools or purchase others that will fit. Stop trying to find the tools shown because they are German and unlikely to be found in America. Every day, regardless of the weather, I keep this in my truck. Contractors who require a go-to box for "that tool" should strongly consider this product.
This toolbox is fantastic! I bought the original 491301(slightly different) about 6 years ago and have been using it as my main tool kit on site and in the shop ever since. In contrast to the other reviews, I have found this to be a valuable addition to my festool collection. Yes, there were a few tools that I used on a regular basis that didn't fit perfectly, but I was able to find tools that worked well in the space, and I don't use the little box insert (I usually leave it inside the systainer).

This small wooden insert box was created specifically for third-party tools that are not included in the kit. Because these are European tools that aren't widely available in the United States, the small wooden box is rendered useless. I'm returning it for a better one. Unlike most Festool products, this one isn't well thought out.
