I decided to purchase this set so that I could replace the cheap allen wrenches I'd been using for years with a nice set of ball end wrenches. When you hold them in your hand, they feel like quality, and their size makes them harder to misplace than a small allen wrench while working on a project. br>br>The four smallest sizes (3/32, 7/64, 1/8, and 9/64) are regular hex wrenches, not ball ends. I'm guessing it's because of the size and the possibility of a ball end breaking. When the other six have the ball ends, it doesn't bother me nearly as much. If you plan to mount it on a horizontal surface, the stand will suffice. You'll want to make your own if it's lying around on your workbench or mounted on the wall. If the wrenches aren't mounted, the length of the wrenches will cause the base to tip over when you reach for one.
I was in my garage at the time. I needed to replace the intake seals on my motorcycle engine, which necessitated removing four socket cap screws at tight angles. With only a 1/4in allen wrench in my possession, I stood. It was a cheap L-shaped wrench that was about the length of my index finger. The kind that you can get on a keyring set at the hardware store for a few bucks. I imagined the anguish and misery that lay ahead of me. I came to my senses and did some research before ordering the Bondhus balldrivers, as I had done in the past with split knuckles and stripped out screws. They arrived quickly, and I decided to test fit them at an angle on my motorcycle intake the same evening I received them. I was putting the new seals in place 30 minutes later. The outcome was outstanding. There are no rounded fasteners, and there are no slipping fasteners. The Bondhus drivers were long enough to allow me to do the actual wrenching from the outside of the bike's frame. They fit at an angle, gripped the fasteners without issue, and were long enough to allow me to do the actual wrenching from the outside of the bike's frame. That day, my heart doubled in size. I've learned the hard way not to purchase low-cost equipment. If you invest in good tools and maintain them properly, they will pay for themselves. Your knuckles will also appreciate it.
If you have any questions, simply go to YouTube and look for Adam Savage's Favorite Tool's episode. They're a little on the big side, but they're well-made.
Well
What you pay for is exactly what you get. These are incredibly well made; the handles are heavy enough to easily spin the bolt, the sizes are clearly labeled for my aging eyes to see, and you can gronk on them without fear; they're tough. Don't buy these if you enjoy being annoyed or skinning your knuckles when your hex wrench strips.
And it's all made in the United States of America! I'm very pleased with this purchase because the quality is excellent and they're made in the United States, so what more could you ask for? When I looked at the Allen brand, I couldn't find any of their products that were still made in the United States. It's a pity that so many iconic American tool companies have "sold out" to foreign manufacturers. Consumer prices remain unchanged, but the quality of construction has deteriorated significantly. At the executive level, perhaps others will value product quality and American jobs over the bottom line.
These are of good quality and are in the mid-range price range. I'm sure there are some that are just as good, but I doubt there are many that are even better. Despite the fact that this set is new to me, I have had other Bondhus hex wrenches for decades and they are still in good condition. These will, without a doubt, be identical.
On first glance, they appear to be very high-quality tools. My only criticism is that the description does not make it clear that the smallest four sizes are NOT ball ends. I bought four sets in total because I wanted standard and metric measurements, as well as ball and straight measurements. As a result, I now have two of the smallest straight hexes and no small ball ends. I made the entire purchase because I needed a small ball end at the handles for set screws on bearings and other items that straight wrenches couldn't reach. It was a real letdown.
The use of handle wrenches is self-evident! They have a rock-solid foundation! They're made in the United States, as well. which I enjoy as well. It's difficult to come across a better pair of t-shirts. These ones are better at handling hex wrenches.
