Even though I am trying to keep the tape relatively clean, I am still having problems with it getting tight, causing it to pull straight through the mud and end up on the wrong side. There has been some improvement with this problem by rubbing a bunch of wax around the area of the tape. Everything is fastened with screws or rivets. It is tough to scrape any unused mud back out, because there are numerous screws on the inside. Maybe it was impossible to avoid, but I am sure there are other models that are more effective. In the space where I think wax might interfere with the adhesive tape, I added foil tape to smooth things over. I cannot grip the tape well, probably because the tape is covered in mud and I can only grip it when my hands are wet. There was a model that had the wheel that embedded the tape into flats and angles for you that would have been better.

The Goldblatt mud and tape banjo is a good design and compact. I first learned this instrument on a different brand, the same design, but I like the Goldblatt better because it is compact and well If you cannot afford a tape machine or have no reason to buy an item you will not use every day, this really speeds up the tape application process.
