Questions & Answers

Is there a beltloop on the leather sheath?

Yes, but it isn't particularly strong; in terms of durability, you're better off with nylon.

Does it have a lustrous or matte finish?

It comes in a matte finish.

Is it possible to sharpen the blade with the diamond file that comes with it, or is it not recommended?

Diamonds, to be sure. A blade sharpening file with a coating.

Is there a sheath included in this?

A Premium Leather Sheath is included with this model.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you buy the black version, please keep this in mind
5/5

This has already been discussed by others. I was on the verge of removing one of my stars. **** I strongly advise you to read the entire post because it contains important information that will save you time and frustration. To sum up this article, IT REQUIRES MAINTENANCE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! Please follow my advice if you want it to run smoothly. br>If you're going to buy the black version, get a tamper-resistant lock right now. Hoppe's cleaning solvent, gun oil, cleaning patches, and q-tips are all included in the proof torx bit set. Because you'll need them to properly tighten the screws and clean off the excess coating, keep them handy. Apply proper lubrication (it didn't come lubricated in the first place). It's a good idea to have these maintenance items on hand anyway because you'll need them to maintain its condition on a regular basis, but the state it came in when it was brand new was frustrating because it's a top-of-the-line product. the- a tool for creating lines
- Here's the rest of my message: br> If you want a review of the tool itself, there are already plenty to read, and I can attest to the fact that they are accurate because this tool is everything you could want in this category of multitool. However, I want to emphasize the condition in which this tool arrived to me brand new, so that you are aware and understand. I am not referring to the sharpness of the tools or the build construction, which were both excellent; rather, I am referring to the coating and lubrication of the black version only, as I assume the regular stainless model would have been different. br>br>First and foremost, every review that mentioned the coating peeling off (and having black hands) was correct. I discovered this for myself, but it turns out that it's not the coating that rubs off; rather, there's a lot of leftover paint on all of the tool's surfaces. This MUST be removed, and I'll go over how to do so further down. The coating, on the other hand, is quite long-lasting. Moreover, the reviews claiming that some tools were too tight or loose were accurate, as I had to adjust mine right out of the box. Please read on because you'll need a specific tool to complete this task. br>br>*YOU WILL REQUIRE A TAMPER- TO ADJUST THE SCREWS, A PROOF TORX BIT IS SET. Normal torx bits will not work because they lack the tiny hole in the center of the bit, which prevents the screw from loosening. These are security screws that keep the tool together, which is great, but it also means that standard torx bits will not work. So, if you don't already have them, go out and buy them right now, along with the leatherman, because some of the tools require a lot of force to open right out of the box, which could result in injury or death (half-joking). TO REMOVE THE EXCESS COATING AND PROPERLY LUBE THE TOOL, YOU WILL REQUIRE CLEANING SOLVENT AND LUBRICATING OIL. Leatherman apparently didn't care if their product was properly lubricated or free of excess coating after production. When a high-end tool like this requires maintenance right out of the box, it's a bit disappointing. It was a little gritty and crunchy to operate and deploy the tools. This isn't a big deal, though, because you'll need to keep it in good shape when it starts to get grindy and crunchy. I like to think of this as Leatherman's friendly reminder that you should always have tool cleaning supplies on hand. br>br>I used some hoppe's cleaning solvent and gun oil that I had on hand, and it made a huge difference right away. I'm assuming that the majority of people who buy this tool have a Hoppe's somewhere in their home (because most multi-tool owners also own guns!). Even if you don't own a firearm, I would still recommend using Hoppe's. Hoppe's is a magical product that I use on all of my tools. It not only makes the leatherman smell wonderful, but it also 'loosened' it up so that it now works as it should. Smooth and pleasant. br>I suggest you use q-tips or gun patches. Using cleaning solvent-soaked tips, scrub in every nook and cranny to remove all excess coating, then apply small drops of oil to ALL pivoting points or areas of friction (such as the liner lock and plier storage area of the handle) and work it in by opening and closing the handle. Several times, each tool was closed. Again, if you don't have cleaning solvent or gun oil on hand, go out and get them right now, along with the leatherman, because they're both required to keep the tool in good working order. br>br>You'll be surprised at how much paint comes off, almost as if you're cleaning a gun that hasn't been cleaned in 1000 rounds (extremely dirty, and you'll need a lot of cleaning patches). This disappointed me greatly, and I was about to deduct a star because Leatherman does not appear to care about shipping their incredible tools in good condition. It's aggravating to purchase an expensive tool and then have to perform routine maintenance on it right away. But, again, you'll need these items to care for it throughout its life, so it's not a big deal. I kept the star because it still deserves every single one of them. It's a 5- a star tool that came in a two-piece set I gave it one star for 'operational condition,' but the tool is so great that I kept all five stars. br>br>"Look after your tools, and they will look after you. " someone.

I was let down
3/5

Read on. I had a hard time getting the pliers tool out of one side of the Leatherman Surge I received; it was really stuck in there, and I had to use a lot of force to get it out. When I opened the pliers, I saw that they had been used and that the teeth of the pliers had worn down. Then I noticed that there were more areas that had been used and had a lot of deep scratches on them. This isn't my first Leatherman, so I'm aware that it comes with minor factory scratches, but these are more typical daily wear and tear. Also, I know that new Leathermans are stiff out of the box and require breaking in, but one of the screwdriver tools appears to be bent and pressing against the plier head on this one. I'm disappointed that I got a USED Surge instead of the new one I paid for.

The World's Most Powerful Multitool If that doesn't tell you what I think of this tool, I'm not sure what will
5/5

This is my third Surge since 2009. br>The only thing that has changed in ten years is the pliers. The originals were abysmal in comparison to the precision needle noses that are now available. With proper cutters that can be replaced. You can grip it if it fits in your pliers. If you have to cut something, this is the place to do it. Crimp. Saw. Chizel is a file. Scrape. Drill. Sew. A blade needs to be sharpened. If you're looking for a screwdriver, this is the place to go. You figured it out. Liner locking blades can be opened with just one hand. saw/file, as well as heavy-duty scissors You can do just about anything with the bit kit. I can't tell you how many times I've just happened to have a bit that works for what I'm turning. The new sheath is fantastic. br>br> It's well-made, so there's no need to upgrade if you get it. The new button snap is safe and secure. For those of you with horizontal carriers, it only accepts vertical carry. It is large enough to hold all of your accessories. br>Get the Surge if you're looking for the ultimate multitool. It's a substantial piece. However, it is well worth the effort.

NetRush provides an excellent tool as well as excellent customer service
5/5

This tool was purchased to replace a Wave that was taken by TSA (due to my oversight of forgetting it in my laptop backpack). br>br>The Surge is a lot heavier than the Wave, but it's a lot more durable, and I went with it because of the interchangeable t-shirts. shank blades, wire cutters that can be replaced, and better scissors While the price is high, I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for. With proper maintenance (and making sure I don't leave it in my carry-on! ), these should last a long time. )br>br>I mentioned the excellent customer service because the item description mentions a leather sheath. I got one that was made of vinyl. Not a big deal, but I've always had good luck with leather, so I sent NetRush a quick email requesting a leather sheath in exchange for the vinyl one, and they politely replied that I could keep the vinyl one. As a result, the seller receives a five-star rating: )br>br>Advantages: )br>br> br>Traditional Leatherman qualitybr>Interchangeable bladesbr>Replaceable wire cuttersbr>Excellent scissorsbr>br>Cons: br>It's a little difficult to open the blade exchanger, even after using some 3-in-1 tools. 1 oilbr>There was no micro driver (which was one of the Wave's most useful tools).

Scout in the Cavalry/everyday guy First and foremost, I own a lot of multi tools for various purposes ranging from military to EMS load outs to hiking climbing load outs
5/5

br>br>I've been using my SOG assist multi tool for my military purposes and added a saw to it to use it for making dig ins for OPs but I got the surge and it replaced the SOG on my belt. I love this multi tool it's a little heavy but it's well worth it because you get that real tool feel Yes, the black oxide coating needs to be wiped off a little, but that's no big deal; just wipe it off with a paper towel and you've got yourself a non-reflective tool, which is important in my line of work as a scout. This bad boy's saw is a beast, and the screwdrivers are fantastic! I'd get a wave or something even lighter if I were a backpacker. I use either my Swiss Spirit or my juice for EDC, but just because these items are too heavy doesn't mean I haven't thrown them in my bag. I really like this tool and would definitely recommend it. It's great for handy house or car work, and you'll find a use for it somewhere. Once you have it in your hands, you'll think to yourself, "Hey, I'm glad I bought this. ".
