This hammer is just what I needed The head is hung close to one side and open to the other, giving an "open hang" on one side and a "closed hang" on the other side. I am very disappointed with such a condition because if the hammer is flipped onto an opposing striking surface, this condition creates an inaccuracy that makes it dangerous to use. As a result, I had trouble getting it delivered because it required a signature, which did not work for my wife and me. I did not feel it was worth the money and the effort it took to get my hands on it. In my opinion, Wilton would be a better choice. A NEW UPDATE My rating of this app has been bumped from 2 to 4 stars after approximately one month of heavy use. It is still important to take into account all of the above, but I am impressed by the powerful and seemingly indestructible construction of this hammer. This hammer is much better than the Wilton, but it still is a killer. *2nd Since I haven't used the software for months, I am now completely forgiven for all the complaints I had prior to this. Adding this hammer to any toolbox is a wise decision. I would highly recommend this book.

With the steel wedges I bought this hammer, I would split oak using it. It has been used probably 5 times for splitting wood now and have not had any issues - Still, there is a tight feeling in the head. It is nice to have a rubberized handle in order to cushion my hands. It is impossible for me to say how tough it is because I have not struck the handle against an oak while using it.
Yet, it hasn't broken yet, nor does it appear to be at risk of doing so anytime After using it daily for 3 months, I expect that it will serve me for years to come.
