This file has been used by me for almost a year now, as a custom knife maker. As a result, you can easily add jimping to your knife's spine without a lot of difficulty. As far as sharpness and performance, I have not noticed any degradation over the course of my time with this file. Greetings from Red Beard Ops, thanks for your support.
In order to achieve the best results, steel must be cut with cutting fluid, oil, or gun oil. Every five to ten strokes, brush the shavings off of the file and out of the cut grooves of whatever you are cutting.
Steel that has been annealed has been extremely well taken care of by this product. If equally strong pressure is applied, and angles are maintained during filing, material will be removed in the same way each time. It is important to note that I keep this file in the garage with other tools, and, unlike most of my files, this one does not rust instantly. I am not sure how it has been able to hold on to its original shape after weeks of use. This product should be recommended to all other users who need to cut annealed steel and softer metals in this way. Although I've used it with reasonable success on hardened and tempered steel, as well, its level of performance is obviously diminished as a result. I am satisfied with its performance and I would recommend it to others that plan on using it on the material mentioned.
It was well packaged and exactly as described when I received it this morning. Using it has been a pleasure, and I'm glad it worked as well as I hoped it would. I only have one complaint regarding the item, and this is not due to the seller. The size was clearly stated in the I thought it would be a little wider, but it is only a half inch wide. I bent it to fit my 1095 steel after it was annealed. The seller is a seller I would purchase from.
This file will be used for making knives. The app did what it was supposed to do, but I only give it three stars for the following reasons The file came in a piece of wax paper and an envelope, which seemed excessive for such an expensive item. A branded box would be at least a reasonable expectation given the price point. Additionally, I noticed that my file appeared to have been pre-owned as it appeared to have been worn on the sides What about used or something like that? I expected the presentation to be on point, it wasn't. If you charge a high price point, that means the quality and overall presentation should be on point. In addition, I feel as if the product has been tampered with I didn't have time to complain, return, and have it redelivered after I had used it. Both sides of the handle had been worn, and where it would attach to the tip there was chipping, probably from being banged or poorly cast in. As far as the checkering was concerned, it was on point except in cases where it appeared used. I have no problems using this against o1 steel. The channels are very clear, the edges are very sharp.
This product was purchased to ensure that some parts were filed Serrations on the spines of my handmade knives are evenly spaced. It has a 20 lpi spacing, which is about as fine as you would need for this purpose, but it cuts sharp and perfectly spaced grooves that are incomparable to those made by hand. Although the spacing is too narrow for serrations on the cutting edge, the cutting edge lacks serrations.
nonslip grip that is perfect for everyday use. You need one of these 00 checkering files in your tool box if you are a knifemaker or gunsmith.
The other side of the file still needs to be tried out, however I'm slightly disappointed with spending $40 on a small file that was not durable enough to last through one operation.
