The money was well spent. It was used to carve a 1" barrel channel into a 3" long walnut forearm tip (for a rifle stock). I noticed that my cheap 8" four-in-one file was creating grooves, whereas this one was evenly removing material. The rasp has a "shoulder" section that allows for finer control, which I found to be very useful. Other reviewers claimed that it removed wood quickly, but I found that it did so at a reasonable rate and with good control in hardwoods. I have other rasps and files that came in sets, but this one, along with my Shinto saw rasp, is a cut above the rest.
I added a review here because there were no reviews with pictures of these Narex wood rasps. For a machine stitched rasp, it's of exceptional quality. Take it seriously when it says "course. " These will eat up a lot of material in a short amount of time. After that, all you need is a fine rasp or sandpaper to finish the job. It's also worth noting that these are massive raspberries. For comparison, I've attached a photo of my normal file.
I know, it's pricey, but this is how wood rasps used to be made a long time ago. Yes, the "stitching" is done by machine (although I believe there is still one company in France that does it by hand $$$$$), but it is done. The Narex cuts wood aggressively, which sets it apart from other rasps. In a very aggressive manner! Isn't that what you're supposed to do with a wood rasp? If you're getting into the finer points of cabinet construction. You should give this line of rasps a try. Control is key, but this is a truly incredible hand tool. Try one out (on some scrap) to see what angle and hand pressure you prefer. I'm so taken with it that I've already placed an order for the 1/2 round.
This rat tail rasp is an incredible beast. br>Very sharp, and it appears to be very attractive.
I was able to perfectly enlarge a one-inch round hole! This rasp is fantastic!.
It's abrasive and cuts like a champ. This perchase has made me very happy.
For the price, good quality.
A lot more teeth per inch than a rasp with fewer teeth per inch, which should result in a better, more controlled bite.
