That's not the case. I'd recommend you use a Spring Tube Bender instead. There is a simple reason for this. In order to reclaim the metal that was stretched after the bend, the metal must reabsorb it. This would be a very difficult task simply by bending it back. A Spring Tube Bender, essentially a device to stretch the tubing in the other direction, is required for this purpose. There is no way to do that with this tool.
As far as I am aware, I have never made a 180 using 1/2", but I would guess it would take 2 1/2 to 3 inches.
Tubing of this type is designed to fit into this unit.
Selected User Reviews For OTC 6515 3-in-1 180 Degree Heavy Duty Tubing Bender
A few reviews have commented on how cheap the build quality was of this bender. Truthfully, you wouldn't encounter any difficulties if you planned ahead a bit and did your research on the correct usage of it. "Heavy duty" is a bit of a stretch, but it worked well on 3/8" steel fuel line that I had to add a couple of 90-degree bends to For anyone not familiar with the use of such a tubing bender, watching or listening to an instructional video will be useful. The only requirement to creating perfect, kink-free bends on this bender is to be aware of how the sliding hinge joint works and to take your time. Every time you bend, you get a free bend.
Despite its considerable ability to bend 1/4" lines, one of the 3/8" lines was slightly flattened in one spot, and the other was badly damaged to such a degree that I went ahead and bought a brand new wire to replace it since these units require Because of those poor bends, I had to throw away $200 worth of copper. The only thing I would recommend, if you insist on using this with 3/8 HVAC copper, is to practice a lot and be very careful to stop slightly short of the 90 degree mark to avoid.
It is perfect for the job! As I am building a project that requires some 180° bends, I realized that the benders I have been using for years would not go Despite ordering this bender the next day, it arrived the same I had no problem finishing a bend that I had started on my other bender since it has the same radius as mine. Only the painted surfaces of the bending surfaces bother me because they leave paint smudges on the work as they are worn out. It is recommended to use polished bending surfaces though they are not required. I feel that they are The price was well worth it. This one would have been more suitable for all my bending needs if I had bought it years ago instead of the first one.
What you are looking for is the Robinair 18548. This thing will work great if you want to bend one of the sizes it's designed to bend. While the 1/4 inch channel is suitable for 3/16ths, the tubing will tend to slip when using it. While it will work, it won't perform as well as a fit that is tailored to your body.
The best part was having the tool with me. It was not in stock locally and it would take a week before it arrived, so I turned to Amazon. I reviewed several tubing benders from inexpensive to top of the line, looking for a bender that could handle several tubing and not a It was an easy decision for me to go with OTC. It was a great product, excellent size and long handles made bending tubing easier. I had the tool in my hand by the due date, which was great. I could hardly believe how quickly the whole process went!.
My fuel line was 3/8" and I used this but I recommend you practice making bends before starting your project. I found if I bent a 90* all in one motion, it kinked the wire and made it squishy and uncomfortable. The bend had to be done in small increments, slowly working my way up to 90°. This tool works well for me despite the fact that there may be better tools available.
Items arrived ahead of schedule, were packaged securely, and as usual, Amazon was able to deliver the items to my front door at a fraction of the cost of local stores! The brake lines are now a breeze to install
This is a product I feel confident in buying, would buy again if necessary, and would refer to other consumers without reservation.
A bending tool for brake lines is the first of its kind. This is used on some copper products It is made of nickel. Old school (sorry old timers) dad used to say bending brake lines was a test of patience and moral perserverance. Both were not required, according to me. This is only the first time I've used this tool and copper A walk in the park, nickel tubing was the highlight of the trip! Let's take the time, mock it up on some wire to know if it bends and presto - change! The first custom brake line is now in place.
