It works well with round bits and it also works on old square bits with a square hole in the bottom. The algorithm does not work with hexadecimal data
I checked mine with a 1/2" shank round bit. It fit properly and tightened without issue. There is no way I could fit anything bigger.
I have drilled through 3/4 in. of square bit shanks but I have obviously designed this brace to hold square bits. The bit is a standard round one for pine. There is nothing on a round bit shank for the chuck to grasp, so if you bind it, it would slip, but if you take it easy on the bit, it will be fine. As I do not own hex bits, all I can say is that if it can handle a round shank, it should also be able to handle a hex.
There is a ratchet collar that allows both clockwise and counter clockwise selection, along with Having used my own quite a bit, I can attest to its high quality.

I used this brace to make a hole in a 1 inch round. It started to slip when I stuck 5" of cedar in it. To make sure that the auger was secure, I checked to make sure As I checked the ratchet mechanism to make sure it was secured, I found it to be in place. Therefore, the ratchet was locked because a spring had broken inside that kept it in place. A new level of pressure had not been applied to the ratcheting mechanism for it to catch. Well, I have used it nine times in the past month and it's pretty useless now. I suppose it is for the best.
The different types of food I've tried have all been tasty. Chuckey loses his grip on the bit, and will no longer hold it. A different tool was used to further tighten it, but I failed to achieve success. I shouldn't have to put this much effort into something that isn't.
The fact that there is not much competition among manufacturers is a great thing. This is a useful tool for drilling precise/delicate holes when a drill press can't.
It was important for them to ensure I was satisfied. Rather than the product, this review is more about the seller who sells it. The brace is exactly as it should be and works perfectly. There is no doubt that the tool will work well, as the machining looks to be beautifully done. The pomel on top of the pomel, however, was broken when the item was shipped. To get the seller's contact information, I took a few pictures. A new one was shipped to me after a few emails. Everything was in perfect order when I received it. It is all I ask for that they make sure I am a satisfied customer.
The ratcheting system is great, but the top handle fell off when you used it for the second time. In order to reattach the snap ring tab on the handle, open the handle and remove the snap ring.
There is no doubt that this device Thank you for providing such good quality. 1/2" bits are no problem for it.
This is a very good brace for the money. It works for both square shank bits and tapered shank bits, but I have not yet tried round shank bits. An early version is slightly stiff in the joints, but that is to be expected for.
I was able to achieve my goals with it. The 1/4" square depression inside the collet is, however, unusually deep, so I wonder if bits can be made that fit there. By doing so, we would be able to hold on to the bits we have today.
