My hobby of woodworking is my only pastime now that I'm retired. I recently added scroll sawing to my skillset and have since been using a compound scroll saw to cut custom wood. To cut thick square chunks of hardwood precisely, the chunks must be thick and square. The craft of woodworking is a delight for me, although I'm a novice at best. A few months ago I purchased a 6 inch Bessey wood hand screw clamp after reading a lot of articles aimed at beginners of this craft (me). As long as woodworkers glue piled up a lot and need quality clamps, Bessey has always commanded a good reputation. I have to clamp the wood in the clamp while I actively saw the blank for this particular application. As a result, I feel much better about my work, since the clamp holds the blank securely and the added mass of the jaws dampens out the saw's vibrations. I am pleased.
Despite being smaller (for basic woodworking scale), there is still a classic design with satisfactory hardware in this 6" version. There were two threaded screws that were well machined. Unfortunately, the metal screw seems to be of a poor quality. Wood jaws were machined well and appear to be either European birch or soft maple depending on the thickness. I like the way the handles feel, and the two screws move in harmony. In order to clamp a project in old-school style, you must align the jaws parallel before clamping. From there, you can adjust the clamping pressure to fit your needs. It has served me well for projects that require a smaller vice. As I was making custom hooks for a solid walnut picture frame, I chose to use walnut as the material. The smaller object held well in the sleeve. After that, clamp a medium clamp on the bench with the smaller I found it to be effective. Several solutions exist but none are as elegant as the rest. It's still a good value, though, at that price point. In addition to offering enhanced metal in the screws, Bessesy could charge an extra fifty cents (US). It would be a good purchase for woodworkers.
The clamp I use in my shop is a good one, cheap clamps are frustrating to work with and cause issues. The Bessey clamps are my favorite, and this clamp is well made. The wood is not missing or torn out The screws are smooth and well designed, and the handles are of a good size. The investment has been good.
This tool does not have any problems. It was assumed that I would assume 6 There is not an inch difference between the length of the wood clamp pieces and the width of the jaws when they open. Knowing what you want or need before ordering specific sizes is the key.
The clamp is not up to the job. A worked one and a failed one out of two I bought. As the two boards cannot be held together, it would not hold. The cable just unwinds and falls off when I apply pressure.
In the near future, I hope to order others of different sizes.
It looks great and is made of high-quality materials. This is a durable, tight-fitting wood clamp. Wooden screw clamp with a nice finish.
This is a great box to pair with an ICRA.
