The threaded end does not extend past the 90" mark on mine. In any case, I bought mine about ten years ago, so I can only assume the new ones are exactly Ten years of heavy use and the cover looks as good as I just thought you might find this interesting.

It is best to go with this pole design. A very sturdy product It will weigh a bit more than some of the aluminum pole designs that use the lever tightening systems (which MAY cause damage if the system breaks -- Honestly, I haven't owned them yet),.
