I bought these to replace the emergency lights in our office because the SLA batteries in the old incandescent emergency lights had failed after only two years. 3 years. Buying brand new lights was only slightly more expensive than simply replacing the batteries in our old emergency lights. These use rechargeable battery packs, similar to those found in cordless phones, making them much less expensive to replace and lasting longer before needing to be replaced. br>br>These are bright enough for smaller spaces like offices and hallways, but not quite bright enough for larger spaces or higher installations. They have a higher flood output than old incandescent emergency lights, so the light does not travel as far. This is probably why there's a sticker on the inside that says don't use them higher than 8 feet. br>br>In general, they were a good deal when compared to the cost of a new battery. My only other observation is that the box in the wall to which they are to be mounted in our building is a standard metal outlet box, which does not have a hole pattern to screw onto it (like a switch cover plate). Because I didn't want to drill into the drywall and use anchors, I had to drill holes in the backing plate to mount them. br>br>Finally, I'd like to point out that We had a power outage and one of the lights went out. It turned on by itself one afternoon and then stopped working (the red power light was no longer on). We double-checked the wiring, so the light must have malfunctioned. We had them installed for about two months at that point when I contacted the seller, who simply sent us a new replacement and didn't want the old one back. Customer service is outstanding.
These were purchased as emergency lighting for the basement (backup freezer, electricity panel) in order to make it easier to access in the event of a power outage. It was very simple to put together and the instructions were clear. The lights are bright, and the four-pack was sufficient to illuminate the entire 1500-square-foot basement. When the power is turned off, the batteries have already been charged, allowing you to quickly verify that they are installed and functioning. Batteries can be recharged by plugging them into a power outlet.
These emergency lights are suitable for use in hallways. The main issue I had with them was that they were smaller than the older units, despite the fact that they looked similar to the fixtures I needed to replace. To the point where the standard size cutout for the electrical box in the wall behind the unit is usually larger than the new light. It would have made a huge difference if the width had been 1/2 inch wider. It would have saved me a lot of time spackling and re-plastering. painting. The plastic anchors that come with the kit are useless. You're better off going to the hardware store and getting some decent ones. The amount of light produced is insufficient to illuminate larger areas. I'd like to see a version with a higher lumens output. With better LEDs and a slightly more powerful battery, you'd have a very nice unit.
At that price, a four-pack should consist of four fixtures. I pray to God that each light head is not counted as a four-pack. I sent the seller these photos, and they responded by saying that my photos show four fixtures, and that I'm crazy. Then they have the audacity to say something like, "We hope this helps. ".
It was pitch black in my theater when the power went out while I was working on overhead speakers on a step ladder. Before I finished anything else, I decided it was time to get some of these installed. Place two in the theater, one in the hallway, and one in the restroom adjacent to the theater. These lights have a huge range of adjustments and are extremely bright for their size.
Emergency lights that are nice and simple to put in place. With the leds, there is a lot more light and the batteries are much smaller than with the old incandescent lights.
It's a simple procedure to set up. I installed them, and one of them went out the next day. It appears that the transformer burned out, as I see a black spot below it. Because they don't sell one pack, I'm not sure if I should return them all. I thought it could be a little brighter, but I suppose it's fine.
