It was a struggle to get them to work, but, boy, were they worth it. The inner covers are two sizes combined in one After reading the description, I knew this Since our bolts are 5/8" in diameter, I was using the wider end (as our bolts are 5/8"), which is what you'd use with the different diameter bolts. As it's hard to see, the cylinders grip the bolts via three protrusions inside. These protrusions take up a lot of room, have no flexibility, and would not allow me to push the cylinder over the bolt with any ease. If only I had used a blow dryer, they would have been soft It's hard to say. It is possible, however, that this has distorted the entire process. It was only after rotating a couple of screwdrivers until part of those protrusions were worn away and the protrusions were slightly flattened against the inside of the cylinder that I was able to solve the problem. Once I slowly pushed down on the bolts for several minutes, followed by lots of muscle power, the cylinders finally had enough 'give' on the inside for me to press them down. Although a lot of force was required, it was still quite a feat. (My first instinct was to grab a hammer, but I didn't want to damage my new toilet by cracking the base). It didn't take long for those cylinders to be installed, and the outer covers also fit perfectly. But even as I type this sentence, I can still feel the impression of the inner cylinder in my hand. It seems to me that those who wrote that they were easy to install are probably installing the wider ends (designed for 5/8" bolts) onto bolts with 1/2" diameters.
