In the case of a two handle faucet, yes, in the case of a one handle faucet, no.
As it turns out, the nut fits my Moen double handle bath faucet contained within the 1224 cartridge circa 2001.

I was impressed with how you handled shipping (even though I wasn't in a rush) and everything went according to plan. Basically, you did a good job. This is the right way to do things.
Metal so thin that you could shine a flashlight through it would be dangerous. Using an adjustable wrench will flex the nut and cause it to come off. Therefore, you must use pliers to remove it, which also flexes the nut. However, you will likely be able to remove it without egging the male faucet body threads.
It is great, as it was brand new and arrived very quickly. Thanks a lot.
I am sure it will fit a lot of other Moen fixtures, including my CA84913SRN bathroom faucet. The water system in my home froze one night due to the cold We had a 20 degree winter spell this past winter and this is the part that failed. It may be hard to tell from the description, but there are two of these retaining nuts.
It was impossible to find this part in any stores local to me and no one in the area could assist me. My thanks go out to those who made these available. Exactly what I was looking for!.

The MOEN cartridge 1224 replacement nut was perfect for the MOEN tool. TWO for the price of one!.
After a bad freeze, replace the broken one on the sink faucet.
