The drain defender I made for my toilet did not have an opening either, so I had to drill a center hole to properly close the cover. It is easy to cut the spike off the drain defender and just put it over your cover if you do not want to drill a hole. That's what the instructions on the box say. I have an update for you Since I bought my Drain Defender over a year ago, I haven't had any problems. The only maintenance that I've done to it is two quick cleanings of mud buildup (one today that made me think I should write an Since I no longer have to worry about the drain backing up and flooding my basement during heavy rains, I've experienced a great deal of A couple years ago, we realized that the drain at the bottom of the exterior basement stairs was going to be a problem as soon as we moved in to our house. A rainstorm caused the basement to flood only a few months after we moved into the house. The drain cover had been clogged by debris from floating on top of water. In the following days when it would rain again, I would be worried about the basement flooding again and check the drain constantly. There have been more than one night when a thunderstorm broke the peace in my house. I would run to the basement and frantically clear the leaves and other debris from the drain before it overflowed. Seeing rain in the forecast at home always caused me to be concerned that I would arrive home with a flooded basement when I was going out of town. I searched everywhere to find a solution, but was surprised to find that there aren't any to be found. That has all changed since the Drain Defender was invented! The drain cleaner prevents my drain from getting clogged, and I don't have to worry about it. There will no longer be a late night trek to clear it out in the rain. I couldn't believe how easy it was to install the software. All you have to do is place it on top of the The use of this product is highly recommended for anyone experiencing flooding problems due to blocked drains.
My walkout basement drain has been plagued by several products, but the one I found to be far and away the best has been "Drain Defender". Keeping the filters together and placing them on the drain is easy - just snap them together. Simple as can be. Outer filter is made of strong PVC, protecting the larger debris, and the inner, flexible filter prevents the smaller debris from passing through. Together, they do a great job of blocking the wind and preventing the accumulation of debris, such as leaves, twigs, grass, seeds, flower buds, etc. After several large thunderstorms, there has not been any We tried other drain products, but they all required constant cleaning and vigilance. It is truly better than that one!.
With the help of a 1 second installation, I tried out Drain Defender. I collected old leaves and grass clippings and placed them around it. The first picture can be seen here. My next step was to turn on the hose and run water into the stairwell for 15 There is no water welling up, but a little water is gushing from the sump pump. The second picture shows the scene. Once I removed Drain Defender, I personally found the area around the stairwell drain to be free of any debris I had placed on top of The third image shows the situation in A small price for what was advertised and no installation was required is success in my opinion.
In the days after I installed I noticed water was pooling around me near the drain outside the basement entrance. There is not enough water to flood the basement, but it would be the OPPOSITE of what this is supposed to do, wouldn't you say? I picked up the drain after it dried up a bit around the drain and noticed the bottom mesh strainer had come free of the top plastic. The wire was reconnected in the 2" one, and it worked fine Rain followed by a day-long shower resulted in the pooling disappearing. The issue is something I will have to keep an eye on to avoid it recurring, but it'll probably keep drains from clogging enough that it's worth the little amount of effort I will put into it.
This is a very high quality product. Last year, we nearly had flooding. There was fear that rain water would enter the basement and cause carpet and flooring damage. In our search for a perfect solution, we came across Drain Defender on Amazon. We're delighted with the product and would recommend it to others. There was heavy rain in the past week, but since Drain Defender was doing its job, we weren't concerned about it. I was amazed to find that the water did a fantastic job of keeping leaves out of the drain. In the aftermath of the storm, clean up Leaf removal was easy as they were stacked and could be easily As expected, Drain Defender did exactly what it was supposed to do. Our recommendation is that you should consider this product if you're looking for a solution and for a reasonable price.
Though the product is a good one, the unit does not seem to lay flat enough to keep debris from collecting under it. I personally found it to be a good product because it prevented the major part of the debris from clogging the drain. Also, it floated away from the drain after a rainstorm. It was not floating away so I had to put a brick on top of it.
There is no doubt that this product is well thought out and designed. This seems to be the most cost-effective solution for my outdoor basement stair drain. A mesh filter installed at the bottom of the drain fits flush against the drain surface with small holes to keep out debris, and is rubberized to prevent rusting. A small spike installs in the drain holes to keep the mesh filter in place. There is a strong ABS plastic part on the top of the filter, strong enough for me to stand on. This drain is built to hold 200 pounds of weight (200 lbs), and is designed to keep leaves and debris out. The interface and functionality are great so far. The performance of the system will be determined during the Keep an eye out for more updates.
