You could also just use a lighter to melt the ends just to make sure. I cut the cable and it seems fine.

The pull on the pole pruner had been worn out, so I bought this to replace it. As you can see, the original pull rope looked like this, but it became frayed and broke after a short time. I have used this one for one day and it seems to be holding up quite.
