The question I have for you is what difference does it make if you know how to use these? Ratcheting the strap into the turning mechanism beyond the point where it is no longer able to turn is unwise. It will depend on how large the item you are securing is in terms of excess if used properly.

I'm not sure how people shred these, because I used them movers a whole weekend to secure a mattress, a large dresser hanging off the back of my truck, and so It is easy to use, they are easy to ratchet down, and they hold well. The majority of them remain in mint condition and are ready for additional use. While I have them in my truck, I'll keep them there for as long as possible.
My first experience with a ratchet tie down strap was frustrating, but I was able to figure it out almost right away. It only took me 15 minutes to have them up and holding stakes after the package arrived. It was necessary to purchase additional soft loop straps since the small hooks I had in this set did not fit around the stakes I was using. There was no way for me to reach the hook straps around, so I had to use two soft loops on each end instead of four, thus using up all four ratchets with only two loops. As I discovered, Fortem does not sell the soft loops separately, so I have to purchase them separately.
To ensure that I could secure things down securely on my RAM dually, I bought these ropes, since it is difficult to taunt ropes. The money is well spent. Those people were very special to me. I drove 500 miles with these holding up my stuff on top of my Yukon and they still looked brand new even after driving through three deserts in almost 1000 weather conditions. Despite being weak, the ratchets were incredibly strong and of excellent I found the straps to be light and sturdy, yet a bit loose. The fabric did not unravel or fray.
