I looked up YouTube videos on how to get into my mailbox after losing the key and receiving an offer from USPS to help or hire a locksmith for $150. Thank you very much. br>I needed a dress for a work event that was coming up in a few days, and I work Monday through Friday. I didn't have time to meet them at the box to finish the swap even if I wanted to overpay on Friday. In total, it took me about 20 minutes to buy this and replace my old lock. After trying on two sizes, I was concerned that the latch would not fit, but they have so many that it will fit any box style. Make sure you check the little circle where you insert your key, as I did, to ensure you have the correct lock! Shipped quickly, of excellent quality, and at a low cost that actually meets USPS requirements.
The key is now difficult to insert and remove after four or five checks of the mail. The key gets stuck halfway in the lock when I try to insert it, but I can still turn the cylinder and unlock it. However, this isn't always the case; The lock is now locked after several attempts at inserting and removing the keys. I'm guessing the pins get stuck in the cylinder and don't move until I insert the key again. Cheap materials and an insecure lock. br>br>.
During the Covid pandemic, my lockable mailbox was broken into. Fortunately, Amazon was able to provide me with a replacement within a few days. The lock was simple to replace, and it comes with a variety of lock components (cams) in various sizes and shapes, so it should fit a variety of mailboxes. It's held in place by a spring clip - Because it didn't fit perfectly with my box, leaving a small amount of play (hence 4 instead of 5 stars), I would have preferred a washer and nut (like my old lock did). The product appears to be of good quality, and there are two keys included.
However, the mailbox is still there. It appears to be a different style of lock than what my neighbors are using, at least for my application. As a result, I've been wondering for the past year if my mail carrier will leave me a note one day telling me that I need to replace my lock with one that is approved. However, as long as you understand what you're getting, I'll leave a "buy it" recommendation. br>br>But for now, no complaints from USPS and it works as intended in my mailbox, so as long as you understand what you're getting, I'll leave a "buy it" recommendation.
Since the installation 5 months ago, there has been nothing but trouble. Getting the key into the lock is a challenge. It's worth noting that these don't have "dust covers," which keep dust out and make it easier to operate the key. Choose the National Mailbox Lock if you want to keep your mailbox secure. The USPS frequently employs this method. It cost twice as much as the one from Prime-Line, which I tossed out today. Keep in mind which way a mailbox lock opens and closes when placing an order. They aren't all the same, but otherwise it's a simple DIY project. However, invest in high-quality merchandise. not on the top of the priority list.
I like how it came in various sizes; I was able to find one that fit my mail box perfectly. When I told my manager that I had misplaced my mailbox key, he assured me that he would take care of the problem. After 6 months of being without access, I purchased this and had my mail box up and running in less than 5 minutes. I would have done it a long time ago if I had known it would be so simple. I would have spent over 100 dollars if I had called a locksmith, so I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Our mailbox is constantly being broken into because the old lock's cam was too long, allowing a gap between the door and the actual box. This set came with a cam that was the perfect length, so there's no gap anymore. Because the mailboxes are old and not particularly sturdy, I don't believe this is a foolproof solution, but it will at the very least deter someone from using my box.
Instead of following the included instructions, go to YouTube and search for an installation video; it'll be a lot easier. It's a fantastic set that's also very simple to put together. Fit perfectly on our apartment mail box, and they match the rest of the locks on everyone else's boxes as well (just a little shinier and newer!).
