The material is corrosion-resistant as a result Although the metal is resistant, it is not strong. This lock comes complete, and it is the only one on the market that comes complete - I definitely recommend it to others. All components are guaranteed to fit together, including a locking bar, nut and washer. As you expect the old stuff to fit the new lock, but in reality, it may not - it is very important - The same has been true of my situation. There were two times as thick a locking bar on my old lock as there is on the current lock and that was the reason the old lock had to be replaced Because the nut had too little purchase on the threads, it was stripped. Nothing can hold the locking bar on the lock despite it working. My old bar would not have fit into the new lock if I had tried to attach the new lock The bad keys are the ones you need to complain about As I first tried to use my keys, I was also extremely disappointed because they all had to be evergreen It was necessary to push the bolts back just a bit before they could be turned and removed. I'm sorry, but! As far as I am concerned, it was "built in" and anticipated a degree of metal compression during 1 .
2. It is not advisable to keep the key in the lock while you install it If you do this, you will permanently damage the inside of the lock. The second is. The lock should be inserted and the clip should be slid. There is no spring steel in the clip Due to its lack of curves, mine had too much play in the door, so it had to be bent. 3
When the keys are out of the lock, put them on the lock bar, and the locking washer (positioned so that the teeth would bite the nut if it tried to come apart) and then assemble it fingertip-by-fingertip. A tight fit. Four point four. This is important. Insert the keys but do not insert them. Use the short wrench to tighten the nut on the lock bar. Hold the lock bar with pliers or hold by hand. Please do not act like a hamster Firmly grasp the lock bar and tighten while holding it In my case, the internal cylinder movement was enough to cause all three formerly clumsy keys to operate like butter now that my cylinder has internalized (pulled in by the tightening process). For those wondering, oiling the lock before installation was not sufficient to prevent it from.
In this case, it appears that tightening the rear nut with the key in the lock is not allowed. Eventually, the mechanism inside of the lock will break, and the lock will begin to bind or will completely fail. The fact that this was unmentioned anywhere was, therefore, how was I supposed to know? There is no other reason I gave it 2 stars other than mine will still lock/unlock if you tinker When it comes to poor installation, I hate to point the finger at a product. In my opinion, what I did was not unreasonable, especially since there were no notes indicating I was meant to be informed about this problem. Could you imagine the damage the lock would cause if you didn't have the key when you installed it? The same thing happens here.
It appeared to be a good option to replace the lock on my package-drop Yet, before I ever installed it, the keys did not function smoothly (as several other users have noted). I did not experience any problems with the dust cover on the key slots (a feature that was good). In either case, inserting, turning or removing the key took a lot of effort. I was never able to keep my cool. lock was loosely fitted in the opening of the existing lock, which was the final insult. It may be easier to mount with clips, but it isn't sturdy enough as a lock for a drop box. There was just no good match for my intended application with this lock. Thanks to the Prime-line replacement lock, I was able to use it instead of the original.
Having said that, it arrived quickly, however, some previous reviewers were mentioning the keys are a bit "sticky" in that they can be challenging to turn to open. (Reason for 4 stars) I don't understand why folks are having issues installing the item. Apparently, they are using the key that came with the lock to keep the main cylinder steady as the nut holding the locking arm to the rotating shaft is being torqued downward. Don't hold/steady the cylinder with the key while tightening the nut, instead use a piers to hold the body tightly as you tighten it. Use a set of pliers to hold the cylinder tight.
This is something that should last a lifetime. My mailbox lock had worn out and I was looking for a replacement. I ended up shopping for several locks to see which was the best quality and fit. Compare this one to CompX USPS--it was of a higher quality Both the 1172C National Mailbox Lock and the Prime-Line Products S 4140 Mailbox Lock are available. Another user complained that the key mechanism was malfunctioning. It fits perfectly as a replacement for any USPS box. There is no problem with the key. It fits into the lock comfortably and turns it smoothly without any problem. Since the metal clip, locking cam, and nut are made of stainless steel, it won't rust. Also, the mechanism will fit nice and snugly since it is stainless steel. This is a very good result for me.
Even if your lock is completely missing, the lock comes with all the parts you need. There is just a small bend to the latch arm to make the door tight and locked. My orders for and and all worked fine, but the keys were different.
Lock works very smoothly, Key reaches unlocked position in a clockwise direction, key stays in good to open the door and the jamb size and depth are adequate for USPS cluster mail boxes (CBUs). There is flexibility in the use of the jam due to it being able to be installed in all four directions. I also appreciated the large hook piece as opposed to the typical small ear.
It was an easy, quick, and straightforward process to replace the locks with new ones. Extras will be purchased for backups to be placed in CBUs along my mail route (some postal customers manage to lose all three keys somehow). When I am replacing something, I tend to do it myself (it is more expedient and saves my customers from hassles). If you do this yourself, just be sure to have two pliers at the ready to hold the lock bar when tightening the retainer nut (this will avoid stressing the lock tumblers).
