Several boxes are contained within a single one. An additional backplate is not required. In addition to the back plate, the box has a front plate. Just 4 holes are provided for screwing, bolting or whatever it takes to hang the box. Mounted flush on the wall, it is unnoticeable. There is not much give to it. It was pre-drilled for mounting, so I think that is why. All of it is one box, but they call it a back plate.
Of course, the amount of modem traffic depends on its size. Since this is a large box, most small to medium sized modems should fit inside. I think that this would handle my Spectrum cable modem perfectly well if we're talking about a cable

There is no indication that this is a NEMA box, nor is it advertised as such. It's a nice large wall-mount box. You can mount a removable standoff tray onto the project box to build whatever you want inside. I mounted a USB power supply, Android signage player, network adapter, and HDMI to RCA converter and now I display marketing on drive thru screens that employees cannot accidentally knock out of By the latch there are two small holes if you want to use a screw or two to close the lid and by the latch there is a larger hole where you can place a lock or bar to hold the lid.
It was great for my build because the backboard made for a very neat install of all the wires. Almost all the wires I had to run I was able to route from behind, so it was very effective in preventing snagging.

I found online videos explaining how to install it but none were available - as well as no easy way to knock out the holes.
The cam lock on this box is not suitable. In order to lock the box, the locking component must be inserted into the slot. There is too much space between the box and the slot. Attempting to return the lock does not work -- it says it cannot be returned. This keyed cam lock will not lock this box, so now I have an open box.
dimensions of the internal compartment do not match the stated dimensions. The dimensions of the inside are 11 inches. This picture measures approximately 75" by 11". "75" in length. It may seem like a small thing, but my component layout was dramatically different because of it. In addition, the sides of my box were slightly warped inward, causing the width in the front to shrink by about 1/8". It is a very good box if these dimensions are acceptable to you.
