The same thing happened to me. I need a center hole in my cabinet knobs, but the small template does not go on the center. As a result, I had to determine my own center of gravity.
My problem was the same as yours. This item was considered a waste of money after I reviewed it. In the end, I used a template that I drilled myself and then used the holes to use it. Because I had to work in a hurry, I did not have time to wait for someone else to place another order. My recommendation would be to send it back.
This is also an option in the small template.
You will be fine if you do it

My cabinet pulls have holes 5" center to center, so I just purchased some. I knew I would need this template in order to install the pulls since the previous template guide I purchased went up to 4" center to center holes. I liked how easy it was to use and how fast it worked! This note applies It was much easier to drill holes on dark wood cabinets when I applied painters tape to the face of the cabinet to show where the holes should be drilled (that were marked with a pencil). The drawers also needed to have two drawer pulls I also had to use a center punch on the pencil marks (to prevent the drill from wandering) after making the pencil mark. After that, I.
I read many reviews before buying this, and almost did not buy it. We had handles that were about 5 1/2 inches in height, but people said that this would only work with handles shorter than 5 inches. The one review I read said his were all over 6 inches wide. So I decided to go ahead and buy them. The item will be returned if it does not work. You will not find in any of the reviews that your mounting holes need to be 5 inches apart. Your handles can be 10 inches long as long as the mounting holes are only 5 inches apart. The only disadvantage to this is the plastic appears clear in the picture and it is a smoking gray color. The better option would be to use a clear plastic. did not have this tool so he installed a drawer handle by hand. It took him three hours. You can only put one drawer in. Our first step was to try it as soon as it arrived. The process of creating 7 more drawers, two cupboard doors, and two more shelves was completed in 2 hours. In addition to installing the hardware, there were a lot of other things to do. This was the process of removing and installing the drawers. I found this thing to be a lifesaver.
I am so disappointed with this product.
1) The plastic is very thin so when I received the stencil it There was no way to keep the table flat against the cabinetry. 2) There were inaccurate hole options/placements for centered holes. There are cabinets in my home dating back to 2001 They didn't line up with the center of the door trim or the middle of the drawers, so the holes looked weird. The holes were accurate, but irrelevant since I had to measure each handle mark by hand. 3) The hole distances were accurate, but irrelevant since I had to measure each handle mark by hand. Four) The drill bit was too large. I am glad I tested it on a separate piece of wood first. 5) The stencil holes were too small for the drill bit to fit through, so I could not use it as a guide. It ended up sitting on the counter for all three hours I spent measuring cabinet doors and drawers. This was a very frustrating experience. I think it was a waste of money in the end. Rather than buy the cheaper one from Home Depot, I should have bought the one I saw at Lowe's.
Most knobs and pulls can be installed with this method. To ensure this template will work with your size pulls, check the dimensions of the template. Despite slight warping, my templates still worked for the installation of the software. It may not work for all situations regardless of the exact placement of the software. Rather than an adjustable template, you should get an adjustable template if you need greater flexibility in placement. This worked better than a pencil or fine tip marker because I clamped the template in place, then marked lightly with a center punch. With an indentation left by the center punch, the drill bit would stay in place as you drilled. That lesson was learned after the drill bit walked a little before the hole began in one hole. The hint is Once you've determined which holes to use on the template, place a piece of masking tape over them and use a punch to create the This gives you the opportunity to make sure you use the same number of holes on all drawers or cabinets of the same size and with the same knob or pull setting. Other sizes and placements can be done as well.
The holes that were assigned to me did not line up with my doors so I didn't really use them. It's actually very easy to install. Measure center on each drawer, mark the location of the center hole and select how high you want the drawer to be, hit the marks with an awl, drill the holes and install your drawer It took me no time at all to install my entire kitchen, and it turned out perfectly. With so many holes on the product, I observed which ones I’d be using with a red sharpie, to ensure I wouldn’t make a mistake. As for the door one, I measured and drilled the first hole without the product in place. Once I knew it was perfect, I placed the product on the door and drilled a hole straight through the product (where I had already drilled) to make a hole exactly where was needed. Once I had that mark on the door, I used it to mark the rest of them. I was very happy with the result.
I was going to make my own templates from wood which would have given me the same results, but this took less work.
With the right knowledge, you can make a great product out of it. Unless you are sure you aren't off by too much, check your marks multiple times before drilling. You might want to use a pencil instead of an awl just in case. I wish you the best of.
In the description, it says that the template can be used for easy installation of pulls up to a maximum distance of five inches. It is 1/16 inch in size. A representative of the company came with the product and stated the max center-to-center width to be Additionally, the material is MUCH darker than shown in the product image, making it very difficult to read the numbers. However, the product number from Liberty matches the Amazon listing. I am unsure of why the discrepancy exists. One of the larger ones is in stock at the orange hardware store. This item is actually made here in the US by Liberty Hardware, so it's a shame that it didn't meet my needs. Liberty is known for making quality cabinet hardware.
The key to installing cabinet knobs is to have this item. There should have been bigger holes on it because it requires a sharp standard pencil (carpenters don't fit that well for me) or a fine pick to mark the The bit was tossed and a fresh miluakee was used after tapping the marks with my punch, so I am unable to rate it. So as not to blow out all your cabinets too, you should clamp a board to the backside. I believe this is one of the best deals you will find. The marks were not long enough to mark the center of 15" drawers, but it worked for this project. If I were to do an entire house again I'd look for something bigger and better because this one didn't mark the center of the drawers.
